Correct cable to add SATA ssd to HP motherboard

In any case, don't buy blindly, based on the photo or some inaccurate description. Make sure you buy the correct item based on the part number.

That's a beautiful picture. It shows an M.2 AND a 2.5" SSD, both installed. Is that the way it came?
If that's a standard SATA SSD, replacing the OEM drive with a larger drive should be no problem.

So, from what the OP said, can I conclude that the PC DID NOT come with the SSD? I see there is only one SSD port on the motherboard.
In the picture, it appears that there IS a SSD enclosure already installed. Is THAT correct?

Sorry, I'm just all questions today!

I've had only one experience with an HP AIO PC, and it was given to me. What a POS! It failed miserably and I had to scrap it out.
The best I got out of it was one 3.5" hard drive, and a couple sticks of ram. The rest went in the dump!

Don't rely on the photo. Make sure it works in your model. Not all these SATA flex cables are the same. They differ in both length and width and probably at the order of the wires. Don't risk it. Don't say we didn't tell you...

I greatly appreciate everyone's help. Unfortunately when you get someone who has an inkling of knowledge at HP they refuse to answer because they could be seen as helping you void the warranty. I may just have to take a flying leap. The 2.5" connector is identical on all, the cable has 10 leads and the MB connector is labeled MB and is indexed.

Over time I've salvaged a number of the SATA data cables of various lengths but haven't needed to decode the meaning of black, blue and red colors, probably something with data transfer speeds. I just put them in a box and when needing one match what is already there. Some have an angled plug on one end. Oops, forgot orange and some plugs have a clip on them to lock in place.

I discussed this with a friend of a friend who has a similar all in one and does not have a second storage drive of any kind. These pictures are of his MB. It appears to be a 10 pin connector for the HDD. I presume this MB will accept an SSD as well and that the board is not limited to HDD only ? HP does not sell this with a second SSD - just an HDD. And before I wrote this email HP tech support did not know and suggested I call the sales team if you can believe that one !!!

The other end of the cable is a standard SATA data and power connector intended for the SATA 2.5" hard disk and of course you can also connect a SATA 2.5" SSD instead. In fact we do that all the time. We replace the old mechanical hard disk with a SATA 2.5" SSD in order to make the laptop about 10 times faster and extend its lifetime. An SSD makes the laptop much faster than increasing the RAM beyond 4GB. The same laptop with an SSD and 4GB RAM is faster than with the original mechanical disk and 8GB RAM.

Thanks. I've never used the connector on the MB. How in the world does it connect to the cable Does the white portion rotate up and clamp down on the blue portion of this cable ? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QZJ3LH2/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?smid=A1BQWGBLWM4VYT&psc=1

Looks to me like the connectors at each end are the same whatever model, lengths of ribbon might be different.

the parts for the model in video are discontinued so he had to Heath Robinson it.

All the videos I've seen mention a door that flips up and clamps down on the cable.
That's the white or off-white piece of plastic. Treat it gently, they can be easily broken. I use a dental pick to lift them.

Every video show a black door that rotate up and you slide the cable in and close the door. There is no black door on this connector. I had a very short period of time to look at this thing - I wonder if the white plastic part rotates up ?

The ones I've worked with did and pressing back down clamps the ribbon in place.

you will figure it out when you try it. This is the machine but not close enough to see how it clamps on

This cable looks like it might be attached in a similar way so have a look at that. It could be different but you will have to peer closely at it.
