Windows 10
I am helping a friend with his laptop running Windows 11, it is the lamest thing I have seen in a long time being an i3 1.2Ghz, 64bit system, 8Gb memory and 1GB drive with only a small portion used.

To me its a modern layout I am working to understand it (mine is an old fashioned XP-7 look so know where things are) but this has so many hidden things and system files with slight changes to their name, so trying not to disturb its owners setup.

Now I have run sfc /scannow and system check all OK, have also run de frag as it was turned Off, it is now more responsive but I think its loaded with taskbar start-ups so trying to figure out how to move them to desktop (make them inert so to speak) thus ease its boot up. Then when I get it more active can load a better antivirus to check that side, do not trust Norton's or Windows own.

Can you help please David:confused:

also run de frag
FYI in case you do not know. If the drive is a ssd, you should never defrag it. SSDs are trimmed and usually done automatically.
aded with taskbar start-ups so trying to figure out how to move them to desktop
Do you mean taskbar SHORTCUTS?? . If so you can remove them from the taskbar by right click on taskbar shortcut and select unpin from taskbar.
You can create a desktop shortcut by either finding an app's .exe file, right click, send to, desktop.
OR even easier, open start menu, click on ALL, find app in the list and drag it to the desktop.

tutorial index which is alphabetical as well as categorized and is searchable

Not much good for you when dealing with 10 and especially 11.
For all various settings, use the search on start menu or from within the settings app. It is your friend.

The drive shown probably is 1TB, Windows need much more space, my desktop is taking up 191GB on a 512GB SSD. When needed I run Optimize on SSDs. Right-click the drive, Properties, Tools.
