In win10 you could click a drive letter. Customize tab. Optimize this folder for: Documents... Checkmark... Also apply this template to all subfolders. This showed all my video files in detailed view. In win11 this doesn't work anymore? I have to costumize each folder separately. Anyone know how to fix this?

Hello @Weezer1 and welcome to ElevenForum. :-)

It still works a bit in Windows 11. And for the times it won't... there's a program called: WinSetView

There's also a tutorial by the author...

Please understand, that nothing will work 100%.
Microsoft keeps changing things deep in the operating system.
This makes it very hard for any tool to... function perfectly, all the time. :-)

But, we keep trying...

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 13 years?

Yes, that feature is broken in (unmodified) Windows 11. Discussion here. Video demonstration here.

There have been many questions opened on answers.microsoft.com on this issue. And many reports posted on Feedback Hub (search for the keywords folder customize optimize).

If you install StartAllBack and configure it to give you the Windows 10 style File Explorer, that will also eliminate the bugs with setting the folder type. That's why a lot of users say "it works fine for me". I believe you get the same benefit with Explorer Patcher.

I have been told by the answers.microsoft.com forum owner that the File Explorer engineers are aware of the issue and are working on a fix. However, the issue has existed for well over a year and has never been mentioned in any "known issues" lists, so who knows when it will be addressed. It does not appear to be a high priority issue for Microsoft. I recommend installing StartAllBack in the meantime.

Does WinSetView help with this issue? Well, only if you want the same Details view for both General items and Videos. In that case, you can set those defaults using WinSetView and then you'll always get that same details view everywhere.

I discovered that, typical MS, "all subfolders" is not all subfolders.
Truth is that only first tier subfolders of any given folder or subfolder are affected by the setting.

Which feature are you referring to? The "Apply to Folders" button or the "Also apply this template to all subfolders" checkbox?

The picture on the right is actually one of my relatives. At least, by marriage. That just goes to show you that, there's someone for everyone.
