DHCP Auto-configure IP Addresses Problem

I checked through the 5 pages of posts but did not find any that related directly to my problem so here's my issue:
When allowing DHCP to automatically assign the IPv4 Address, Subnet Mask Address, and DNS Server Addresses, it creates addresses that are outside of the Local Private Network-LAN which would normally be:

IPv4 Address: 192.168.1.xxx with a
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 and the
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1.
DNS Servers: 192.168.1.1 or 1.1.1.1

If I manually set the addresses listed above, I get a connection to the Private LAN but no internet connection with the error of “Can’t reach the DNS server. The network quality might be low.” or “Local network connection is good, no internet connection.”

Actions Taken:
- Checked the Ethernet Cable(C6) by reconnecting at both ends, used another cable
- Re-Booted the Router
- Re-Started the PC
- Ran Bitdefender Anti-Virus(RE Full Scan), no threats found
- Disabled/Re-Enabled the Realtek Network Adapter from Device Manager
- Ran the Windows Network Troubleshooter(Restarted the Adapter), no change
- Ran a Internet Speed Test(Ookla Speed Test: 320Mb/s down, 22Mb/s up)
- Updated the Realtek Adapter Driver with Realtek’s Latest Driver(ver. 10.73.815.2024)
- Checked Windows Updates(message: Up to Date)

From the Command Prompt as Admin I ran these commands:
>ipconfig /all (to check the addresses & services)
>netsh winsock reset, enter
>netsh int ip reset, enter
>ipconfig/release (no adapter state permissible)
>ipconfig/renew (no adapter state permissible)
>ipconfig/flushdns (successful)
>netsh interface ip set address “Ethernet” dhcp, enter (this changes back to the different network addresses)
>sfc /scannow (no corrupted files found)
>DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
- Booted into Safe Mode with Networking and ran Firefox, Edge & Chrome but still no Internet connection.

I believe this eliminates the Windows environment and almost surely means an external entity is at work somehow.

Is your DHCP server on your router or hosted elsewhere? If it's issuing out of scope addresses then DHCP scope sounds like it's setup incorrectly

As far as I know, it is on the Optimum router. I don't have a reason not to believe that is is. Optimum's router access is very limited so I'm not sure how I would check that.

Yeah that's definitely not what you want. Are you connecting to it wireless or wired?

Almost looks like your connected to a wan port

It's all Ethernet wired and someone else warned me that it could be a botnet infection but my Bitdefender Anti-Virus doesn't see it as a threat. I have also
run the port scanning tests on GRC:Shields Up website and they show no responses from common, service and specific ports such as 9000, 9001, 3483 and 52199(ports I have used for server applications recently). If it is a WAN connection, it is very stealth.

I doubt it's anything malicious. Post a picture of the physical ports on your router. The IP you listed is an internet routable address, this is what typically gets assigned to the wan interface on a router/modem combo. There should be LAN ports which will assign non routable address spaced

Looks like the router is in bridge mode, and so creating a transparant link between your lan network, and the providers network, and you get an ip address from there network dhcp server, instead of your router.

Bridged mode is used if you place a second firewall or other device behind your router, where you want your public ip adress on. (to prevent multiply nat on nat situations). I use bridge mode at home as well and for some small buisnesses, where we add a seperate firewall.

Show us you router config please.

Edit: please, edit your public ip adress if you still can in your post (or ask mod/admin)

Neemobeer, I think this is what you are asking for, All active ports? See the attachment "All Active ports on My PC"
Tester, I am attaching a screenshot of what my Optimum router has for the LAN configuration. I'm not sure what else I can get from the router, they have it
very limited for customers. See the attachment "Optimum LAN Setup on Router..."

If they've enabled bridge mode by accident, only Optimum support (or tier 2 support) can remotely switch it off. Do you own another router, or is the Optimum box the only networking hub you own?

If you own another router, the way it's supposed to go is every device in your house goes to your personal router, and then one cable connects your router to the Optimum box. DHCP on your personal router will give the right local addresses.

And if it is setup as bridge mode. You might now not be able to get into the device, while having a public ip adress.
Then you should configure a manual ip on you network card, with ip 192.168.1.99, subnet 255.255.255.0
no gateway of dns needed then.
Then go to browser and https://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.1.1 login to the device.
And switch bridge mode off. Make sure device dhcp is turned on. Then go to your pc network card, and change it back to dhcp

if not works, make printscreens of all settings/tabs.
Change network card back to DHCP on pc, so you can access internet again.

Tester, as you can see, Optimum says "Coming soon....." which has the been the message since the router was install, more than 2 months ago. I have asked for more access but they just repeat the same answer. Maybe tomorrow I can get someone(technical) on the phone to and get the WAN info. Their AI Chat tool is fairly useless so far in answering technical questions.
Edit Question: I have to login to my Optimum Account then they have a button for router which looks like a webpage, not what I am used to seeing for router setup. On the older router, you could access with the IP address and then login as admin to see and change the settings. This is very different.
BTW, I wasn't able to erase or redact thee ip addresses to my LAN, there is not edit button available.
Another point of confusion for me is that I have 3 PCs on this LAN and two are working fine with the correct local LAN addresses, and one has this DHCP problem. If the router is bridged as you describe, wouldn't that affect all 3 PCs connected to the router?

I never use the ISP provided equipment, looks like they support BYOD which is what I would do.
Same. ISP included equipment is always garbage. I dont understand why either, you would think they would give you good stuff to ensure that you have a good connection. It causes less support tickets when your stuff is more reliable......

some providers man.....

Tester was right! Optimum has one port bridged and the chat person that I talked with said she could not change the router setting. When the router was changed out, they wired the Ethernet ports differently and this PC ended up on the bridged port. I plan to get another cable modem router and connect it to this port so I can setup another local LAN. Any thoughts on how to set up my 2nd router? I do appreciate all the help I have gotten on this forum, it's been very helpful.

I like the TP-Link TC-W78960
The USA government has reported great security concerns with those routers. I would stay away from them.

I like asus for their long firmware update support.

But there are other good router brands out there.

Optimum has one port bridged and the chat person that I talked with said she could not change the router setting.
Really strange they could not change it out of bridged mode. Me thinks the support person just doesn't know how and you need to find another person.
