Windows 11 Pro 23H2
Am I gonna have a problem updating these two Windows 11 laptops from 23H2 to 24H2'?

The SurfacePro is only 5 months old and was purchased on a trade-in

Windows SurfacePro
CPU-Z for MS SurfacePro.webp

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This laptop is less than two years old. Not my first choice but my company had incredible discounts on it.

Lenovo ThinkPad
CPU-Z for Lenovo.webp

I just want to make sure given there was some recent confusion around here.

Thanks! (y)

As you already have Win 11 23h2, there should be no problem.
Download and run WhyNotWin11 Doesn't need to be installed

If they qualify for 23H2, their hardware qualifies for 24H2. The only barrier I know of is that some drivers could block the upgrade.

AI reported increased TPM requirements (harder to bypass for unsupported installations)

(Bree may have reported stricter TPM requirements in another thread)

Well that's kind of what I was getting at. If MS changed the bar for that.

As far as I know the big difference between 23H2 and 24H2 is the requirement of SSE 4.2 support, which according to the CPU-Z screens both of your laptops support.

Hardware requirement wise, I believe you are golden with both devices and good to go.
But...so was I..I thought. After days of effort I ended up having to do a clean install anyway, so we can not guarantee 100% that you will not encounter any issues.

I did all the right stuff before I upgraded...made sure I had no corruption in my system files using DISM and SFC, made sure WU was current, bios was latest, drivers scanned by OEM software, old unused drivers removed, all junk files cleaned up, third party AV uninstalled, disconnected all my external peripherals, and imaging my system.

The upgrade failed multiple times with Windows update and multiple times with me manually using the iso.

It errored during the phase where it was creating windows.old and the logfiles indicated a problem in my user account. It was all in Microsoft speak so I decided it wasn't worth the effort at that point. , I probably could have gotten to 24h2 had I created a new account and deleted my old one. But since I am a stickler for knowing I have a clean machine and usually do a clean install every few years anyway, I bit the bullet and clean installed 24h2. Not one issue since.

Anything that new will have SSE 4.2 support (I think). Which is what is needed for 24H2
