Does anyone use idrive?

Thanks. No I hadn't done that, but I have now and the folder was ticked already. But this time when I ran the back up it found them and backed them up. Maybe I just picked the wrong time of day earlier and it wasn't in the mood!

That's what we did in our Senior Activity Center Windows 11 class. We'll be using Hasleo Backup with 1 TB SSDs. However with that small an SSD, we'll have to do complete backups about once a week. But, we're all seniors, so most of us can't afford to spend a whole lot.

If you have Microsoft/Office 365, you have a TB of space on OneDrive, so can backup to that. Again, you'll have to do a complete backup about once a week.

I'm actually using idrive now and like it Prefer it to One Drive which confuses my filing system.

So I've been having issues with idrive failing to do daily backups recently. I keep getting a notification that says idrive backup engine on this computer has stopped. I go to services and it shows it's running automatically, but turn it off and on again and it starts working again - for about a day, then it stops working again.

Any ideas why?

Just trying to work something out and wondered if you could confirm. I often save documents to the desktop, then later file them somewhere else and delete them from the desktop.

If I go into idrive and delete any unwanted files from the desktop (becasue they're filed somewhere else), will idrive still back them up in their new location? Or does it see two copies of the same file as unnecessary (ie if I delete it from desktop it's gone?)

My experience is that Idrive will backup any files that meet its selection criteria. Meaning the file is in a folder location that is enabled to be scanned for backup, and the file name does not match any exclusion pattern that might be setup.

So you could have the same file with the same name in five different folders, and each will be backed up individually.

If Idrive has seen the file (meaning it existed when a scheduled Idrive backup ran, or if you enabled continuous backup) it will get backed up.

Later if you delete one or more of those files, Idrive will still keep it around in the backup until the retention period expires; or
you manually run an Idrive sync operation to purge old files backed up but now deleted.

So in your case, if your Desktop folder is selected for Idrive backup, the files might get backed up there, if they exist when Idrive runs a backup.
When you copy or move a file to a new folder it will get backed up there if Idrive is setup to backup that folder.

That's how it works in my experience.

So basically it would get backed up in both locations and if you deleted one copy in one location (within idrive) the other copy would remain in the backup in its new location.

I could test it out to see - should have thought of that.
