Does incoming mail alerts with the New Outlook app actually work for anyone around here?

Whenever I close the New Outlook app, I never get any incoming mail alerts that should pop up in the right lower corner of the screen. They only appear when opening the app.
I've triple checked all the Outlook mail alert options and general alert settings in Windows, disabling and re-enabling them, as well as rebooting. Nothing worked

Does this feature work fine for anyone here?

I do know a lot of people have issue with this. I don’t use the app but I believe one possible reason is because it needs to be allowed in “Background Permissions”

Hello everyone,

I had Outlook background permissions left as the default and I never get alerts. I just get an indicator that I have new mail in the Taskbar tray. I changed it to Always, so I'll see if that makes any difference.

Kind regards,

My wifes Laptop gets notifications when the app is closed. I have no idea why some people do and some people don’t.
Same as the fact I get notifications for mail in Thunderbird when the app is closed but others don’t

Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Outlook > 3 dots > Advanced options > Background app permissions > Always.
Settings > System > Notifications >

Notifications > On.
Do not disturb > Off.

Set priority notifications > Apps > Add apps > Outlook.

Notifications from apps and other senders > Outlook > On.
expand > Notifications On.

Tick box for Show notifications in notification centre, and any other options you may require.

I use New Outlook and Thunderbird both with the same 5 Email accounts, neither seems to have reliable notifications. New Outlook seems to be the better of the two. Thunderbird never seems to at all, maybe because it is not the Default, or there is no Advanced options.

Just did that and rebooted, no effect.

Checked all these options but no avail. Is there a specific account for you that does get notifications when the app is closed, for example only Gmail?

If you go into Task Manager, do you see any background service that is related to Outlook? (you can search in the Task Manager bar on top for "outlook")

Do you see an Outlook service running in Task Manager? I don't even get an indicator.

The app needs to remain open or minimized in order to get notification(s) of incoming mail.
Only older versions of the New Outlook app had to be minimized from what I recall. It had to be visible in the system tray in the right lower corner. But this should not be necessary anymore. There's an option in the New Outlook settings that says to "enable alerts when Outlook is closed"

I couldn’t tell you sorry. My wife and her laptop are away in Canada for a brief period.

"If you go into Task Manager, do you see any background service that is related to Outlook?"
None that is obvious, but that does not mean there is not.

There are thousands of things not appearing in the Task Manager.

"There's an option in the New Outlook settings that says to "enable alerts when Outlook is closed""
That is ticked on mine.

The Notification time defaults to 5 secs, too short for me, easily miss them.
Obscurely located here:
