I don’t find boot an issue - I have a SSD in the desktop, meaning w10 booted in about 10 seconds and windows 7 in an absolutely incredible 5 or 6 seconds or something crazy

My old machine (6th ge. CPU) starts faster with Windows 11 than W10 (keep in mind that Microsoft says has optimize W11 for faster boot) and theoretically is an "unsupported CPU" !
New machine (11gen. CPU) needs about 10 sec. to boot with a lot of programs loading. Both now have the last version of win 11. Old has a simple SSD and new a SSD NVME. I guess the big difference is NVME.
Your 10 sec. sounds too fast. Do you manually cut programs and drivers from boot ?

No, I just don’t have much installed on there. Especially now with w7

My old one has an WD blue SSD and it is slow at boot. So i think thats not the major cause.

win7 doesn't have sha2 support out of the box. That is why there is the update

I installed the sha2 update. It didn’t work. Still blocked.

extract the win7 drivers with 7-zip, then install them using either dism++ or by browsing from device manager.

rt click>properties>general>unblock>apply>ok

I chose Network controller, I assumed that would be the one, and selected Update driver, browsed and found the extracted folder, but it didn’t work

What is the device id ? msinfo32>components>problem devices

after selecting problem devices, can export the list on the right by File>export and export as a .txt file.

click drivers in left pane , then click ADD

browse to the driver FOLDER

Sorry, it’s difficult atm without internet and usb support to share these files, I have to burn to disc, take disc to laptop, then upload to OneDrive, then post from my main Pc.

Hope you don’t mind, but I will have to install the zip there tomorrow. I’ll get back to you how it goes. Do you use DISM for it?

on a working machine you could create a bootable usb stick with winpe that supports usb3

copy any drivers and updates onto the same usb stick

boot from the usb on the dell

when pe loads up you can run dism++ to install the drivers and updates from the usb stick into the installed os

I do it all the time.

Everybody should have that kind of winpe.

I have a few you can borrow. It doesnt matter if it is win7 pe or win10 pe or win11 pe.

Thanks. A couple questions - does winpe have internet to download DISM ++ or should I just do it all onto the stick? Secondly, after installing drivers on DISM++ in winPe, do I just unplug the bootable USB, and go on windows 7 with all of the drivers?

dism++ and other tools are already in the iso files I linked.

after creating the bootable usb just copy any updates and drivers onto the usb stick.

then boot the usb and you will get a desktop. use dism++ to integrate the drivers and updates you want into the windows installation.

then reboot into your win7 installation.
