Driver Store Explorer (RAPR)

Must be an issue with certain PCs. None of my 3 Lenovo laptops (X12 Hybrid and 2 X380 Yogas) have issues running the latest RAPR.exe version. Interesting!

You have tried to export all drivers? That is the only thing that doesn't work.

Talking about bugs, there is a major gripe about the new high end Asus Z590 boards. The USB sound chip being the center of attention. First the SPDIF needed a firmware update, then there are conflicts with USB devices and now some users have Noise issues when using YouTube.

Asus is investigating. I don't think that chip was properly tested before going on the boards.

Yeah, I'd definitely like to see someone with Windows 11 be able to use the driver export function. Then we could start looking deeper to see if it is a config issue, or a system setup issue. But as of now I've only see WIn11 users fail with that one function.

I have a feeling it is an interface change issue. I have the same problem with powershell. I am using the powershell 7.2 preview.

Yeah, exporting with dism works as noted, powershell and RAPR don't. I suspect incompatible compiled static dism libraries.

In a nutshell, from the Wiki ( lostindark/DriverStoreExplorer ):

Driver Store Explorer [RAPR] makes it easier to deal with Windows driver store. Supported operations include list/add/install/delete third-party driver packages.

Features:

Support online (local machine) and offline driver store.

Enumerate / list all third-party driver packages in the driver store. Showing device associated with drivers. Export the driver package list as CSV.

Add a driver package to the driver store.

Delete one or multiple driver packages from the store.

Detect old and not used driver packages (best effort).

Full-fledged GUI Supports grouping / sorting on any column. Supports re-arranging of / selecting specific columns.

Nice, I strongly expect this is being added to my standard tools and utilities.

Have you ever worked with DevCon.exe (or similar) for console and scripting access to the drivers settings?

(It's not a particularly friendly program. Almost in a good way to protect the drivers from idiots who don't understand it well enough to use it effectively.)

Hey, welcome @HerbM. RAPR has been around for over a decade and got started in the Microsoft Garage environment. Here's the oldest mention I can find for RAPR in my own writing; Three ways to recover Windows 10 disk space.

and it seems as if the creator of RAPR isn't gonna fix that problem anytime soon now that Win11 is officially released

Hi folks
Note also you can get the vendor id for drivers and hence the actual hardware -- device manager --scroll down to device then -->properties and select events. For example :

This should enable you to see what the hardware is so you can seach for correct driver if required.

How can you know that? It sounds to me like it is a windows issue, not RAPR. Secondly, the issue is of secondary importance, you can save the drivers by other means (dism). I don't even use that functionality to be honest.

What's the best way to back up just a individual version of a driver? Can this be done with Driver Store Explorer?

You do not really need it. DSE shows the .inf file and usually an obvious description - then you just copy the .inf file (or several .inf files with similar names).

Ofcourse not but the file's location will not show the actual driver name and version number for the folder name.
