Unfortunately there's a certain degree of naivity in that statement. It's the price of wanting to be on the internet and agreeing to the license terms (EULA) of the products that provide that access.

Because unless you're in Europe, Edge is an inseparable integral component/part of Windows .. if you're using Windows you're using Edge (tweaks, switches and fixes aside)

To add to what @idgat said, do a Search within C:\Windows and you should find a file called iexplore.exe, it is used to call up Edge when a program or Web site needs the discontinued Internet Explorer. For over 20 years Windows has included a file named write.exe [Write from the old Windows 3.x] that opens WordPad.

That sucker takes screenshots every 5 seconds. It records EVERYthing you do.

Supposedly, you can disable it... but we'll have to wait and see.

As for your camera problem... use BLUE Painter's tape to cover the camera.
Painter's tape doesn't leave any adhesive behind when you remove it.


They also make Laptop camera covers, which are a bit neater. :-)

At some time or another we've all gotten those mail requests for donations that include mailing/address labels which usually include a small stamp with an initial, I save those to paste over the camera on Notebooks. Much more decorative than plain sticky stuff.

I use electrical tape on everything with a camera, the camera can not see through it. The electrical tape wont leave residue. You can buy it in any colour.
I wont buy a laptop or cam unless it has a sliding cover for the camera. All my iDevices have electrical tape. White is good, you can’t really see it on the white bevel. Fold a fraction of the end over so it doesn’t stick and you can pull it back when you have those private cam chats 😄

Use 2 or 3 small pieces.
I just mentioned the painter's tape, cause you can run to Home Depot or Walmart and get it now, while you're waiting for your Laptop camera cover order. :-)

I don't have a camera to worry about, but I just blocked EDGE in the Bitdefender firewall.
EDGE is just too invasive for my taste.
Haven't noticed any issues, because of that.

Yes I have it blocked in antivirus so it has to ask for permission. I could block it completely but wanted to see how many times it tried.

We use Google at work, and we all try not to think about everything we say being recorded.

🤷‍♂️ i ALWAYS disable my mic and cam.. until i decide i need them. no reason for any app to access anything until i tell it to lol. dont let the inmates run the asylum

Thanks. I think I did that initially but then couldn't get the webcam to work quickly enough when I needed it so blocked Edge access to the camera in AV permanently. It's not that annoying.
