Solved EDGE - Capture

I notice some forums will let you use snipping tool to select, and then direct paste into the post, and some forums wont let that work. I find it annoying when the forum wont. One is the Cummins diesel forum. So I have to save the snip and upload the picture. I use that forum a lot so wish they had allowed for that.

In Snipping tool select what type snip you want. When you hover your mouse over them it tells you. You probably want a 'window' snip. window. Then click on the window you want to snip, the screen kind of flashes that tell you it snipped. Whatever you snipped opens in another window. Across the top are some icons that look like paint brushes. All the way over to the right of those icons is the little icon that looks like a floppy disk (Save). When you click it, you have the option of saving it wherever you want to. In the address bar at the top it should default to "pictures". If it doesn't in left pane, select "Pictures" then click save.

I am revisiting this thread - to try and learn a bit more- thanks for past help provided.
I actually have three PICTURE folders presumably the same as "LIBRARY" - one under "This PC" - one under "One Drive" and one under "DESKTOP"
(possibly my PC is set up incorrectly)

however - which please is the default storage place for such "Captures" please?

If you are still using the snipping tool then it will give you the option on where to save.

The Pictures folder in "My Computer" is the default folder unless someone changed it.

It certainly does thank you - the whole screen capture of me using the Snipping Tool went into "THIS PC" - "Pictures"

Whereas the actual use of the Snipping Tool Save went into "DESKTOP" - where marked - I am not sure this is helping but I am practising seeing where saves end up - so maybe it is beneficial - thank you.

With the 'save as' icon you can change it to documents, downloads or even a created folder. Anywhere. Here's a folder created in Documents for saving snips for example.

Created the folder in Documents,

Browsed to the folder from the 'save as' icon in the snipping tool,

Snip saved to that folder.

Thank you - yes indeed - I created a folder -"Snips and saves" I put in the Documents folder - but it all got rather muddled after I decided I would back everything up by saving to "One Drive" - the computer shop I was then dealing with set it up - but I now seem to have multiple versions of similar files and folders and I sometimes have trouble finding where things have gone - unless I have purposefully saved them in somewhere in particular - thanks for your time and help - I am very gradually (20+ years on) beginning to get a bettter understanding of it all.

The muddles are compounded - now I try to share a Microsoft365 account (as it is now called) with my wife as we have a number of email addresses we use between us - some connected with organisations to which we belong - or did belong - it is further muddled as I try to synchronise stuff between or cell phones a kindle device and a tablet device (I have just had a replacement Surface Go 2 machine - under warranty - as the original failed - and would not connect by wifi)
- so the new machine is currently just being set up - the updating took ages and that is back to Windows 10 - so I am not sure whether to stay with Windows 10 on all our machines or start using Windows 11 - even though it does not come with a Snipping Tool I can use with confidence like the previous Snipping Tool that I have used for a lot of years - I just do not understand why Microsoft do not keep the Apps at least functioning as they previously did - even as they update them .

I don't use OneDrive so can't help there. I'm assuming OneDrive is backing up to the cloud so you see more folders on your drive. Would be a good idea to start a new thread about OneDrive so the Gurus can help explain just exactly how OneDrive works.
Also start a thread about Microsoft 365. Smart and very knowledgeable people here that are kindly willing to help.
The snipping tool I used here is Windows 11 snipping tool. For some reason, though, it's named 'Snip&Sketch in the Store?? Quite straightforeward to use.

Sounds like when onedrive was set up everything was left at default rather than choosing what folders are backed up. There is a special default folder in onedrive for screenshots. One can change this settings in onedrive by right clicking one drive icon in system tray and choose settings. Uncheck the box 'automatically save screenshots I capture to onedrive'

Sharex is more complicated, at least the menu is. I used to like Hypersnap and have very old copies that still work. were simple.

@Edwin, Thanks, YouTube is certainly a great resource! What initially appears as a huge, mystifying conglomeration has ended up as very manageable. Your right about its being powerful and very useable. And the price is certainly manageable too!
