If it works ok then one of your extensions has had an update that's causing the issue. Disabling extensions isn't good enough sometimes and need removing not just disabling.

Backdating Edge fixed it.

Doesn't this assume that all extensions are not allowed to run in InPrivate, whereas they all can be?

Damned MS constating updating and most likely I had a glitch and then download had garbage in it. I will try to update it tomorrow when the Sun is up :) Now I have to reseat all my fonts and rubbish. Really tired of updates. This new Dell has a high resolution 16" screen and, of course, all the fonts and sizes are different form my 15" laptop. My eyes are not to best these days, so I need slightly larger text and Icon sizes. Plus, I suspect my brain is slowing down and dementia is slowing creeping in. After working on, designing and writing programs for 65 years I thought that stuff would not be mixed in with senility, but it surely does. Maybe someday I'll forget how to turn them on and all my problems will be gone. :-) My mammy never told me what 84 years old would be like. Hum, she only made it to 52 and my dad only to 74. Then, I know what causes problems because I see a full Moon out the window. :p

Thanks for the hints, gang, I think I just had a bad download and the older version fixed it. Will try the update tomorrow. Fresh air causes me to relax too much and I need to sleep on it.

There is the possibility that the link in question looks for the Edge protocal, however it’s weird that it would do that as Microsoft is all about conscripting new users.

Firefox is possibly being rejected and is being redirected to the home page. Who knows.
I am looking at that link using Safari on an iPad, yet it doesn’t redirect me.

Perhaps Firefox is doing this by design. Cheeky.

I can’t speak for Edge, but firefox asks you if you want an extension to run in a private tab before adding the extension & allowing it. Perhaps Edge just allows it by default.

I keep Chrome around just in case I need another browser to find ways to fix Edge. Chrome is only slightly different than Edge but the small things bug me to use it. I like Norton's browser but never used it enough to get in the habit. Browsers are habit forming. Firefox works okay but it takes too much effort to get use to it. Guess I'm set on my ways, too much, but ain't going the change. My problems of late is that I just want to use my laptop, not re-engineer it every week!!!!!

Not by default, but any Edge extension can be allowed InPrivate.

I think my Edge was messed up a month ago when it began to act strange. It did not crash but changed at times and I just didn't notice what was going on. Then the last update it just went south. I uninstalled it, or repaired it, then installed a previous version that straightened it all out. I will update it again today. Like I say, I just want to use my laptop, not play games with it.

I had a similar problem for about a month I found I was getting same messages as you and the page showed web address but just a white page. I tried opening web pages in Edge Beta and they opened up okay so I thought there must be a problem with Edge after it had just had an update. When the latest edge updated the problem went away
