Error trying to upgrade to windows 11 from windows 10

Can’t get past the 0xc1900101 - 0x20017 error have tried everything I can find to try. I have a x99s sli msi x99s sli plus motherboard with an intel i7 5930k processor. I have updated all drivers, unplugged everything but mouse and keyboard, did a clean boot, removed antivirus, updated bios, did sfc scan with no errors. Anyone have any ideas what I might try next? Thanks for any help

Then just double click to run. Please post a screen shot of the results.

If everything is compatible with Windows 11, it will look like this... (all green boxes)
Your CPU will fail this test. I'd like to see if there's anything else.

To post a screenshot on this forum...​

1. Take the screenshot, (or camera pic), edit it as desired, save to your desktop as .png or .jpg (max. size = 2MB)
2. Left click in your post, where you want to place the screenshot.
3. Click the Attach Files button at lower left, browse to your image and select it.
4. Then click Insert, I usually choose the Thumbnail (smaller) option, or there is a Full Image (larger) option.

As you can see it's unsupported hardware.

Ensure that all that drivers are updated.
Open the Setuperr.log and Setupact.log files in the %windir%\Panther directory, and then locate the problem drivers.
For more information, see Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10 setup log file locations.
Update or uninstall the problem drivers.


0xC1900101 - 0x20017
A driver has caused an illegal operation.
Windows wasn't able to migrate the driver, resulting in a rollback of the operating system.
This is a SafeOS boot failure, typically caused by drivers or non-Microsoft disk encryption software.
This can also be caused by a hardware failure.

Were you using the methods needed to install on unsupported hardware?


Looking at the compatibility list, I'm a little surprised that you're not using EFI and GPT.

Your hardware is officially an unsupported. You need to use a workaround as described in Bypass Windows 11 System Requirements on Unsupported PC

One thing you can do is to convert the Legacy- MBR drive into a UEFI - GPT

Please post a whole window Disk Manager image of ALL your drives. Don't forget to expand the columns so we can read them. How to Post a Screenshot of Disk Management
If you have a MiniTool or AOMEI Partition use it instead or Windows disk manager.

I haven’t switched to GPT because I made a Hiren cd with GPT and could never get it to boot. I’m afraid I might kill my system.
I have tried several workarounds to update. Used rufus and several other methods but no luck. I get to the 100% then first boot, then back to windows 10. I attached the error I get.
