Hello all, I have an issue with the line separator in Explorer. I've tried the fixes on the forum, searched Google and nothing seems to work. There was a registry hack that didn't work and the other was a "show all folders" option which does fix the issue but I don't want to show all folders. Anyone have anything new regarding this problem?

Sorry no one has answered you. May I ask if your issue is with the appearance of that separator (I can see it's slightly skewed)or are you wanting to get rid of the separator?
What version of 11 are your running, release or insider? I am on release and my separators have sufficient space between the groups, unlike yours which cuts through the letters. If you are running an insider version, the skewed separator may be a problem in that version.

If you are wanting to get rid of the separator entirely, I'm sorry but I know no way of doing that. I believe those separators are hard coded into file explorer, but I may well be wrong..

You can make your navigation pane much cleaner as I have by using Brink's tutorials. I did set to show all folders and then removed folders from the pane per this tutorial. Afterward, I pinned only the folders I wanted to see. Now my navigation pane is not so junky.
see screenshot below of result.

You might find your answer in all the tutorials involving the navigation pane. Here they all are together.

Hello glasskuter and thank you kindly for the reply. My problem is I don't want them pinned, I want them below the MYPC area as shown in my original post. I've looked everywhere and hoped someone might have run across this and solved it but no such luck. Once again, thanks for your reply.

Try toggling compact view to see if it resets the spacing and fixes your line issue?

  1. Open File Explorer on Windows 11.
  2. Click the See more menu from the command bar and click on Options.
  3. Click the View tab.
  4. Check the “Decrease space between items (compact view)” option.
  5. Click the Apply button.
  6. Click the OK button.

I was curious if toggling it on and off might give it a kick. Cheers
Sadly, no. I toggled it off, restarted explorer and then back on...no dice.

It’s an odd bug, I have not ever seen it before. It’s like a broken HTML CSS script.

without going into too much of a rabbit hole (it could be various things).. you could in-place upgrade your windows to the same version as current.. that would restore any corrupted files.

if not, you could run an online dism image repair (fastest way to do is use winaero tweaker and add it to the context menu "repair windows image"), or you can google all of the commands if you wish
