if I have the same form in 3 different folders open one in one folder and type something and save changes to that folder, does it change all the folders of my change same form or just the one from that folder?

Just the one.

I have a reasonable suspicion the other same forms you refer to are possibly links or pointer files.

I sometimes strongly wonder if we are being punked.

If individual PDF forms with the same name have been saved in different folders, the change will be seen only in the form in whatever folder you are working in. If you have a PDF form in one folder and have created shortcuts to that form in other folders, any change you make AND SAVE will be seen across all folders.

He was having issues yesterday with his tax forms saved as PDF's in his Music folder?

If no shortcuts or links are involved, then the answer to you question is NO it does not save the change in the other folders, only the folder you are working in.
Why do you want a duplication of the same file in different folders? If you makes changes in such files, the right hand won't know what the left hand is doing.
