Firefox plays audio, no video, for youtube

OS
Windows 11
Winver 23H2. Firefox 129.0.1.

For maybe a month or so, I forget when it started, most youtube videos will appear with the normal youtube video screen in the browser window, but then immediately "white" the display portion, while the audio plays normally. For example (
):

1723824067203.png

Every graphic on the screen is there, including the comments. Just no video.

If the video is embedded in an article, it plays within the article (that is, if another web page includes an embedded video). If I click "play in youtube," sometimes the video launched will play in youtube, but sometimes it won't - just the white screen. That's whether I'm logged into google/youtube, or trying in an incognito window.

Everything works perfectly on the same computer using Chrome or Edge. Everything works perfectly on my home Windows 10 computer, which runs the same version of Firefox.

How do I get Windows 11 Firefox to play the video all the time?

Thanks. I have neither codec/plugin. Are you suggesting that doing so would fix this?
In addition to @Lou, most likely it will, can only try and won't hurt anything if it doesn't.

Honestly, it could have something to do with my having Adblock Plus (and now Tampermonkey) on the browser, but I have these on my Win10 machine and they don't interfere. Also have them on Edge on this computer and they don't interfere.

From my original post, the video plays perfectly embedded in the post, but then if I click to view on youtube, it shows up in a new browser tab with no video, just audio.

Whoops, I DO have both, and both are "always activate." Which is what you'd say it should be, correct?

Yeah they should both be enabled.

As for your issue... go to Help > Troubleshoot Mode... in Firefox.
That will run Firefox with no extensions. If youtube starts working properly again, then you'll know one of your extensions is the cause.

The two plugins that Lou mentioned will still be active in Troubleshoot mode.

On a side note, I run Firefox with NO extensions and it seems to work fine.
I only use the Standard setting in Tools > Settings > Privacy and Security

Yes, I still get the ads in the beginning of some yotubes, but I just ignore those.

Thanks. The video ran perfectly in Troubleshoot mode, including in its own Youtube window. Then same problem with regular mode.

I turned off Tampermonkey, which blocks the youtube ads successfully on my Windows 10 machine, and, for the moment, problem solved. This is with adblock on though, and at times youtube has balked at playing videos with adblock on. I actually don't watch videos on this computer every day - but when I want to see a video, I want to see a video.

Looks like, for the moment, ABP on and Tampermonkey off is the ticket. I think there was a time though when youtube was putting up a black screen advising against ABP, and wouldn't load a video with that enabled. So let me see how a few more days go, before really thinking this is fixed. Thanks for the help.

Glad you got that worked out...
FWIW- I use ADBLOCKER Ultimate (AdBlocker Ultimate - And All Annoying Ads Are OUT!) and have no issue with the latest version of FF (129.0.1)
Earlier versions of FF would, at times, necessitate the turning off of the ad blocker for a video to play on YOUTUBE...that was a YOUTUBE issue as they institued changes to their platform to combat adblockers some 5 months ago
