I am attempting to upgrade my desktop to support Thunderbolt 4. I just received the above-mentioned card and have a question about the installation process.
The MB is listed on their site as being supported, Z790 Aorus Elite AX with an i7-13700K processor.
The problem I have is figuring out the two SATA power connections on the card. I will be using the TB-4 for high-speed data transfer only. Between onboard SSDs and external SSds & HDDs. I will not be connecting monitors so I am wondering do I need to make the SATA power connection.

So, here I am, once again asking the gurus to bail me out!

Thank you.
Tom R.

Just built it for something to do. Used mostly for backup for important stuff.
Not a Guru.

A quick look at the card's manual shows that the card has two 6 pin PCI-E power connectors, like those used for high-powered graphics cards. (Not SATA power cables.)

It appears that they are necessary. (75W each.)

You don't specify your PSU, but I presume that it will have the PCI-E power cables.

Since they are only 6 pin connectors, it'd probably be just fine to use a cable that has two plugs (usual 6 +2, which can be used with 6 or 8 pin sockets).

What's not mentioned is whether your external TB drives are self-powered or not. That's probably the deciding factor.
