While unsuccessfully trying to establish an app password, because Outlook can't read a data file (xxx.pst) it is pointed to, I happened to notice:

I'm sure that at some time I allowed Microsoft to do this (or allowed Google to allow Microsoft to do this?).
  • Does anyone else see something like this in their Google Account?
  • Is there a reason this might have happened? (e.g., Microsoft DEMANDED it)
  • Is it pure insanity to allow this to continue or if I choose to [Remove Access] I'll be punished somehow.
I do know that there is no option to disallow parts of this. It seems to be an all-or-nothing affair.

It's standard procedure. If you want a 3rd party app or email client to manage your account, it needs permission.

No, it'll just make the app useless, cuz then you'll have to log on to your account online anyway to do stuff, because you've revoked permissions.
Then, you'll probably have to delete the account from the app and start all over again! That's punishment enough!

OK, on to the rest of the Google Account - SECURITY page:

There is a very good YouTube video on exactly how to get a Google (GMail) app password.
I had to do it five times. Then you use the app password in your email program instead of the one you used to use.
It takes some time, but it's totally DO'able.

Or, you can just Forgetaboutit, and use Web Mail, like so many people do.

My Computer

Are you saying that if I assigned the letters/numbers to the Google required App Password--no matter how simple the password--that I could get past some of the bs Google wants me to go through?

And yes, I use webmail, but it's restricted in the email address it accepts.

btw: How come you're a Power User and not a Guru?
