When it asks for a number I type in my landline number, 10 seconds later the phone rings: "Here is your one time verification code, XXXX, do not share it with anyone and Google will not keep this info, blah, blah, blah" 🤷‍♂️

Requiring a phone verification HAS been the bane of getting a new account, but where the freck that requirement has now gone, I know not.

It all changed, last year it was forcing using a Mobile Number. Their signups probably dropped.
