Graphics issues on new W11 laptop

OK ignore about the blurriness. The only cleared up for the one size I entered. I decided to change it to make a little bigger and tried a couple of other sizes and the font increased but the blurriness was back. I ended up just selecting 150% from the list options. The text size is great now.

This is a common issue with the newer UHD screens being fitted to current laptops, the latest applications and especially MS "Apps" should display correctly and have the ability to be rescaled easily using Ctrl+Mouse Wheel. or +/- keys.

Where the issues start is with older "Classic" applications where the coding does not include the modern options to control the size of elements on screen at the higher resolutions - the basic display of fixed elements my be OK but text scaling does not scale with other items and can make use difficult due to small text size.

One simple but drastic way to cure the issue with older style applications is to change the screen resolution to a lower setting 1920 x 1080 HD should solve most application issues, but will of course loose the crisper display of the UHD, that you have paid for

The easiest way to solve the issue is to adjust the scaling using the built in controls, there is a method to adjust older unsupported applications but involves editing the applications control files and even this can give various issues after it appears to work due to the often non standard coding used on some applications

@abactuon This is a complicated and annoying issue with home users. Read this tutorial in its entirety as well as the comments at the end. If it doesn't resolve it for you, please create a new thread.

When I got my new Dell laptop I knew setting the display configurations would be problematic.

In the W10 forums there are sets of reg files for 'Menus', 'Title Bars' and so on that allow you to set custom font sizes for all these. Microsoft used to have these as a user option back in W8.1 and earlier but dropped it some years back. You can also choose Bold if desired.

I made notes for future reference which obviously apply to my preferences, but this gives you an idea.


All the other files are easily found on W10 site. After applying each file you need to sign out and back in to apply it.

Note: in order for the reg file changes to 'stick' they seem to have to be applied one at a time.

Currently using:

125% for Scaling. Set from dropdown.
100% for Text Size. Default setting.

Windows 11 Font Sizes.

Notes.
Icons Size. This will affect the text font size for icons in Address bars, Desktop, File Explorer. Icons will resize according to overall DPI setting.
Title Bars. These are the headers at the top of the page or program that is open.
Menus. These are top line view in programs such as File/Edit/View etc.

Icons 12 Bold
Title Bars 11 Bold
Message Boxes 9 Bold (currently not applied)
Menus 11 Bold

Tried it. But when I install the driver, I get an error "intel Unknown error (0xe0000248)".
Never mind, I don't use integrated graphics for games anyway.
