Solved HELP!! 911--Windows Defender False Positive? Free Diagnostic Software Detected as Infected

Way More Trouble than it's worth for sure, and heck i never even extracted it, the folder showed still zipped when it on system. Took me having to use Command Prompt to finally get the Zipped Folder to delete.

About to start a Malwarebytes scan and finally get my behind into bed, tired after all day of dealing with this. What started as a simple check, ended up long day of trying to make sure system all clean.

Malwarebytes scan just finished--All Clean

So think things fine hopefully, still have to check the externals--and make sure didn't save offending file anywhere else--but will do that tomorrow when more awake

Probably not worth being concerned about in that case. System should be fine?

Only Other thing i noticed this morning most of my Files was missing on Onedrive, but that may have been as when i did my Macrium Reflect Restore for to fix my Bluetooth Error i had a few days prior to yesterday, i accidently linked my Onedrive to My Local PC Admin account, and yesterday unlinked that from that account.

((don't worry i had a backup on External of the Purchased Music that i cannot afford to lose lol) Some of it is from old Microsoft Xbox Music/Groove Days back in Windows 8 lol, and i had a Windows Phone then and got 30 Free Albums lol, along with Purchased Music over the years from Amazon. ((Reuploading at this time lol)) 30GB worth lol. (Sure wish Comcast had 100mb upload in this area already lol, but they don't yet, oh well just will take a while on 20MB upload lol)

Otherwise rest of PC security scans clean as a whistle now, system seems to performing just fine, no other strange issues present. dodged a big bullet with that zipped file, can't imagine if it was unzipped how much worst it would've been possibly.

I think i just downloaded it originally to save/have something big to use my upload speed to send something to Onedrive lol--huge mistake, and never will again lol i promise

Probably too late (I didn't read the whole thread) but this may help:

@LesFerch Thats been resolved the clearing of Protection around 10PM or so last night

Definitely learned my lesson don't download anything just to save, even zipped files lol

Glad Emergency is over with this issue though, at the start i thought the files escaped from the Zip file, and was a real infection lol, then i realized after looking at the directory folder was still zipped in Offline Onedrive downloads folder copy and also on Onedrive Download it was still zipped originally lol. Then i relaxed a bit lol

The guy who put together Medicat complained to high heaven on Malwarebytes forum for a long time as MWB didn't like it either. I don't know what ever happened there.
You'll also find him responding to questions about Medicat on several forums across the web. Users are saying how old some of the software is and issues with detections. The guy calls everything false positives. Maybe so...but maybe not.
IMO I base the the legitimacy of such a packaged piece of software on the reputation its builder built for himself over years of development. (think KYHI or Hirens).
Personally, I wouldn't touch Medicat with a 10 foot pole.

Somewhere inside Medicat IS Hiren's Boot CD.

When I was scanning it yesterday, I was watching the program names go by.
I mentioned it earlier... every program I ever heard of is in there, and quite a few I've never heard of.

Yeah not touching anymore myself thats for sure lol. So far found no more copies on any external yet. But several more drives to check lol

Over the years I've come up with MY bare minimum list of needed programs...
Bitdefender Internet Security
CCleaner v5.78 only
Autoruns v13.98 only
REVO Uninstaller
7zip
...and since the Revocations, bootable USB with Gparted on there.

And of course... backup software (Macrium), and Minitool Partition Wizard.


I'm pretty sure I can deal with anything... with just those programs.



I could probably get by with less, but Microsoft doesn't seem to want to get it's act together. :/

Speaking of....Nothing has been mentioned lately about the automatic appliance. Does anyone know when? I really don't want the damn things. When I think of them, I see dead people.

The only thing I remember reading was... sometime early in 2024. Like first quarter or something.
I wouldn't worry about it... MS will probably deprecate it. LOL

Well as long as its not something Users manually have to do like the recent Windows 10 Windows RE Partition, not too worried on Automatic type things i don't think lol, at least not at this point, who knows maybe they'll incorporate it in the next Moment update or whatever its called lol

As for my usual clean install required programs are

Macrium Reflect Home
Nero Burning Rom (Lifetime License) bought in November lol
Office 365
Video Lan Player
SecondLife Game & Other Steam and EA Games (like Battlefield 2042 & Hot Pursuit Remastered lol
Spotify
Malwarebytes Premium
and rest Portable Apps like Revo Uninstaller, Display Driver Uninstaller if ever needed lol, and a few other small portable apps--don't worry nothing else bad or gets detected by Defender or Malwarebytes

One Final thing gonna ask on since still related to PC Security and since already have this topic--figured i'd use this one if its ok lol

((if it is recommended i upgrade to this Bios, then will wait til after High Wind Advisory is over in this area or maybe til Monday or Tuesday to do the update lol, already took a picture with Phone on all the current bios settings including the fan curves set by Shop lol when installed this Arctic Freezer 7x Cooler lol.
