Solved HELP! I'm brain-dead from troubleshooting a power problem. What am I missing?

Thanks for the suggestion.
I've now made a Ubuntu USB using Ventoy.
I've booted up and used [rather than installed] Ubuntu.
I've added a few other ISOs to it so I can play later on.
