help recovering corrupt Raid 1 array

ive been trying to get my NAS back up and running after its been dormant for quite some time
ive stored quite a lot of pictures on there and have been saving it as my back up, its not been used and thought it was pretty safe as it wasnt being used,

i now cant get back onto it and doing searches ive downloaded diskinterenals, which the raid recovery software has said the raid is corrupt,
i thought using Raid 1 mirror meant both disks would be identical so if there was ever a problem with one id still be able to access the other, but this doesn't seem to be the case unless im doing something wrong.

im not sure what the best thing to do is now and dont want to make my chances of recovery worse, diskinternals said it could attempt to repair the Raid but could be data loss but didnt say how much data could be lost.

is it possible to to try recover from just one disk?

not sure if it makes a difference but the disks were brand new and hardly used at the time, and haven't been written to, just tried accessing them

If I understand it correctly, and you're lucky, you may be able to read a drive just as if it wasn't part of an array.

I guess things could get more complex than that, if you're unlucky.

One possibility: the RAID controller in the NAS has failed. Maybe you could transfer the disks to another NAS with the same controller.

I was given an older computer that had 2 x 500GB HDDs set as RAID 1 mirroring, one of the drives had failed. I could still boot to the other drive and recover her data. If I install a single drive and set in the BIOS as AHCI I now have a usable computer. If I have a need to access that remaining RAID 1 drive I have to remember to reset the BIOS first. But the RAID drive in a USB dock it can't be read on a different computer, it's about the formatting used. Drives used in a NAS device use some form of Linux.

Upside to RAID 0 striping is the total capacity is of both/all drives but the downside is if one drive fails all the data is lost.

No unfortunately I don't know anyone with a another NAS to try that

So I'd connect one of the drives with my disk drive docking station, boot into bios and set that drive as AHCI?
I'm not home now but will try after work, trying this wouldn't damage the drive further?

To recap, what I had to work with was a RAID 1 drive and the BIOS had to be set for RAID 1 for it to boot. Setting up a different drive as AHCI required the BIOS be set as AHCI for it to boot.

The drive would be from a NAS.

I presume that it's not a boot drive.

They are not bootable in a NAS device therefore also not bootable in a computer.

I hope that "Maxheadroom11" has no plans to boot from it.

The comment about AHCI (post 7) seems wide of the mark.

No I've not done anything yet, I might leave that suggestion for the moment
