Hello, everyone:

I'm running Windows 11 on an older HP laptop. Not that old! Anyway, I downloaded StartAllBack b/c I want to be able to drag and drop easily onto my taskbar. I really like this little app, but I can't figure out how the drag and drop works. When I try to drag something to the taskbar, a shortcut, for example, nothing happens - I see a small circle with a line through it that seems to mean I can't do that. I'm sure there's an easy solution, but it remains elusive. Help! TIA.

I also see that the version of Windows that I got from pressing Win plus R is different from the version the Forum says. Not sure what that's about. Let me know if you need any further information.

You can, but not everything of course. You can pin exe files, shortcuts to exe files, but you can't pin things like text file or image file. You can also drag folders to taskbar, and "pin" them, but they'll be pinned to explorer quick access, not to taskbar.

What exactly are you trying to drag and drop? (Extension type)

You can, but not everything of course. You can pin exe files, shortcuts to exe files, but you can't pin things like text file or image file. You can also drag folders to taskbar, and "pin" them, but they'll be pinned to explorer quick access, not to taskbar.
You can pin multiple folders individually if you create a .bat to launch each, set to run minimized, make a shortcut to the .bat and pin that to your taskbar.

If you use the the old quick launch similation trick there is no need for StartAllBack or bat files.
Note: this is the way I did mine. You can locate your folder where ever you want and name it what you want. I made this note so I would know in the future where I put mine. I just copied and pasted my note here. The key in being able to pin a shortcut is the way you make a shortcut ie:step 2

1. Browse to C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\
(NOTE: you have to have "show hidden files" enabled in folder options to see this folder.)
Within this folder create a sub-folder and name it QuickLaunch or whatever you want.

2. Make a shortcut to this new QuickLaunch folder on your desktop but add
C:\windows\explorer.exe in front of it like this:
C:\Windows\explorer.exe C:\Users\glass\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch.

3. Assign this shortcut an icon. (Right click on desktop shortcut-properties-change icon-select an icon-apply-OK)

4. Pin the shortcut to taskbar

You can't drag and drop to the taskbar, but you can drag & shortcuts onto this desktop shortcut icon and it will reflect in the pinned taskbar icon.
You can also use this desktop shortcut icon to create files/ folders, anything you normally do and it will be one click away when clicking the icon on the taskbar.

If you want to go crazy, you can create multiple folders inside the parent folder in step 1, follow the same procedure, and have multiple things pinned to the taskbar.
I rarely go to my desktop or start menu as everything is organized in a manner that I can quickly access it from my "fake quicklaunch" icon on the taskbar.
