Mostly an FYI post in case someone else has this issue, or wants to prep for it by grabbing the fix before it's gone, and to invite comment on any possible native Win 11 solutions.

I had an update that needed to be hidden. More detail on request (Old Office XP update I don't actually need). Win 11 still insisted I needed to install it and kept it in the list.

In the past you could use wushowhide.diagcab to resolve such a dilema. But MS considers it depracated. This slightly dated link points you at all the new, integrated components. Windows Update Troublshooter wasn't available when they posted that page but it's clearly what they'd point you to. : Deprecation of Microsoft Support Diagnostic Tool (MSDT) and MSDT Troubleshooters - Microsoft Support

Unfortunately, the WU Troubleshooter doesn't provide the same functionality. You can't hide Updates required in the Updates list. Perhaps there's a way to do it in Win 11 (?). I don't see any options like back in Win 7 e.g. "Hide Update". The WU Troubleshooter will remove the item but it then retries fetching Windows Updates and adds it back moments later.

I went looking for the Windows Update Show Hide tool. MS has removed most references to it from their web site and sends you in their new direction. But, it is still on the Downloads site: https://download.microsoft.com/down...9cd-4275-8c95-1be17bf70b21/wushowhide.diagcab .

As my UK friends say, "worked a treat!".
