You can compress it, then every time you add or change files, they will be compressed automatically.
Or you can super-compress it (LZX), but that is one time deal, each new file has to be recompressed.

compact /c /i /q /f /exe:lzx /s:C:\Windows

Does the code go into CMD? Correct, and does it cover the entire C drive?

You can change the folder, for C:

compact /c /i /q /f /exe:lzx /s:C:\

But you should try standard compression first, it is as simple as ticking this box:

With LZX I would get 12-14GB, but it would have to be redone after every windows updates or extensive writes like that.

compact /c /i /q /f /exe:lzx /s:C:\ where does the folder name go? I have been using copy as path

ok I found this

so I will wait I took your advice and did the folder compress
