How do I stop Windows Explorer automatically opening multiple displays

Windows 11 - Updated automatically
When I start up my PC, it automatically starts up a separate copy of itself for each connected drive. I don't really want any copies starting up; certainly not 5 of them! Found answers to several similar issues, but none quite like my problem. There is no option on Apps Startup re Windows Explorer. Task Manager route gives me the option to End task but not Disable. (I tried End task but that resulted in a need to restart PC!)

I'm not sure I understand what you mean when you say: "it automatically starts up a separate copy of itself for each connected drive".

But... Autoruns can "disable" startup items, and much more.

It seems they have been cramping Autoruns style, in later versions. :/


Had to use 7zip to get it small enough to attach to this post... this is MY clean copy...

Badly described - sorry.
Normally when PC started it does so but doesn't open any apps - just the Home screen displayed. If I select File Exporer, one copy starts up.
In my case, I start the PC and it not only opens File Explorer automatically, it opens one copy for each drive, so I get 5 copies of File Explorer running on startup.
I had used Autoruns before but had forgotten about it. Thanks for the reminder. I'll see if that solves the issue.

You described it fine. I don't understand what you mean by "each drive".
Do you mean each SSD or hard drive in your comp?

Because that would be truly weird. :-)



Whatever the case, it would help to see what you see in Autoruns on the "Logon" tab.

We are in the weird area! That is just what it is happening. Each drive/SSD is opening its own Explorer window. I have 5 drives - System, 2 data, 2 backup.

I tried the first method - was in the off position. I cycle to On then Off (God knows why - maybe He'll sort it!). I didn't try the Register link but i had a look with Regedit and it already is set to off "00000".
