How to get Microsoft to resolve driver issues

Yes, there is no OEM driver. BIOS settings has nothing about USB. I will check EHCI and XHCI, but I don't think they exists in the BIOS. I can try to add a usb 2.0 hub and see if it will fix the issue.

Actually, the hardware ID helped me to eliminate some possibilities, but I'm still no closer to a solution. I plan to investigate a bit further this evening.

    The five 8TB drives and three 512GB SSDs are part of a DrivePool using StableBit DrivePool software. The three SSDs are devoted purely to caching for the 8TB drives. All of the important data is stored in triplicate so that I can withstand simultaneous failure of 2 disks.

Thank you for your effort for helping out a stranger.

So I poked around the bios and found nothing on the USB except for a usb storage option.
I also dug out a very large USB 2 hub, plug it into then the computer and then the Mic and got exactly the same issue.

Hmm, I have a TASCAM handheld audio recorder that can also be used as a USB mic. I suspect that I'll get lucky and that it works just fine. But if it doesn't then I will have something that I can troubleshoot. Right now I'm fading so time for sleep but I will test this in the morning.

Last trick: Replace all Intel/AMD USB devices with generic. I had an old workstation motherboard that would not see properly any USB device except mice and keyboards. Updating the Intel USB drivers made no difference. Then I opened Device Manager and manually replaced all Intel USB devices with generic such as Standard USB controller instead of Intel.... USB controller etc. This made the USB ports to work better and detect any USB device I connected. Try that as last resort.

  • Replaced cable.
  • Use different port, use a hub in-between.
  • Use different compouter.
  • Verified that device appear in sound manager and is set to default.
  • Verified that device has permission.
  • See if there are settings in bios that might fix the issue.
  • Delete devices and let windows reinstall.
  • Change power management to not disable USB by usb selective, and also power managment in device manager.

The MIc always work until there is inactivity and then the driver stops getting any input. I have never seen this behavior before.

it could be the USB ports going into power down after a time of inactivity.
please check
control panel > power options > change plan settings > change advanced power settings

in this window
USB > USB selective suspend settings > settings
click the drop down menu and set to 'disable'

you could also check the device manager USB entries > properties > power management settings
and set them to off/disabled

Thanks, but the USB even though it say "AMD USB" is from Microsoft. How would I pick a generic USB driver since AMD is installed automatically by windows.

Open Device Manager, expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers, right-click on AMD.... Enhanced Host Controller... and select Update Driver. Then select the second option (manual) and again the second option (select from a list). Select the Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller and click next to apply. This is the generic driver. Similarly for xHCI controllers (USB 3.0 or higher). The generic driver is at the bottom of the list.
