If VLC isn't on the list select '
More apps '. If it's still not on the list, scroll to the bottom and select '
Look for another app on this PC '
Browse to the VLC folder and select vlc.exe

I just did this and the mp4 file opened, but there was never any check box to always use this app ....
Also I just uninstalled VLC and its program folder. Then downloaded and reinstalled. Didn't change a thing.

Damn!! Forgot all about that. That's what I did for PotPlayer
And I did the same with Windows image viewer program, and all of a sudden Irfanview was the default for images.
Goes to show, when MS wants to shove their own software down your throat, they'll go to any lengths. You have to be devious to get around it.
Now if we can only get Edge to stop taking over everything (I like Edge as a web browser, I want to keep it, but that comes at a cost of limiting other choices for certain things !!!)
