I think your method is correct (post #27). I think it needs fleshed out a bit. Made more explanatory.
I did test the method in the video. That didn't work as he explained.
In the video, he had an install.wim in both the Win 11 ISO, and the Windows 10 install media.

Even using Rufus, like he did, I couldn't get an install.wim in the Windows 10 install media.
I could only get the install.esd, like you mentioned.

I'm guessing you meant: Windows 10 USB Sources folder, instead of: Windows 10 ISO Sources folder.

1. Use the Media Creation tool to create a bootable Win 10 USB.
2. Access that USB, go to the Sources folder and delete: install.esd
3. Mount the Windows 11 ISO and go to it's Sources folder, and copy: install.wim
4. Go back to the Win 10 USB, Sources folder and paste the install.wim file in there.

I haven't tested it as I am not interested in installing Windows 11 at this point in time.
But this information is available on various websites.
Remove the "Secure Boot" and "TPM 2.0" requirements error when attempting to install Windows 11 Consumer Preview.
  • Obtain the newest available Windows 10 ISO from Microsoft.
  • Make a Windows 11 USB Installer using Rufus.
  • Mount Windows 10 ISO.
  • Find and locate the folder named Sources on the mounted ISO.
  • Copy all of the files in the Sources folder of the mounted ISO except for install.wim/install.esd.
  • Navigate to the Windows 11 bootable USB Installer that you have previously created in your File Manager.
  • Open the Sources folder on the Windows 11 bootable USB Installer.
  • Paste the copied files from the Sources folder on the mounted Win 10 ISO to the Sources folder of the Windows 11 bootable USB Installer and make sure to replace the files present in the Windows 11 USB Installer Sources folder.
  • Boot from Windows 11 USB Installer.

It should be.
The ISO we get from MS download, doesn't have an install.wim... it only has an install.esd
If the one you get from TechBench does... just replace the one in the Win 10 USB stick, with the one from the mounted Win 11 ISO.

I created a ligament ISO From MS. Are you not reading my post from 27? Why is everyone having an issue with this. It's simple and strait forded. Matthew! Just do it...

Ok... the one from TechBench, doesn't have an install.esd.
I downloaded it... made a bootable USB with RUFUS (Windows 10)

So you want to access the USB stick (Win 10) and in the Sources folder, delete the install.wim file.
Then, in the Sources folder of the mounted Win 11 ISO, grab the install.wim file from there... and put it on the USB stick (Win 10) in the Sources folder.

The problem we're all having is this... .esd stands for Electronic Sources Download.
That's the ISOs you get with a tool... like the Media Creation Tool.
THEY have an install.esd file

The Win 10 ISO you get from TechBench, is a straight download (no tool). It doesn't have an install.esd file.
It has an install.wim file


Your method works fine bro. But it depends on where you get the Win 10 ISO.

If it comes from MS via the tool, then you'll be deleting an install.esd and replacing with a Win 11 install.wim

If you get the Win 10 ISO from TechBench, you'll be deleting an install.wim and replacing it with a Win 11 install.wim

I have never created a Windows USB installer via MCT/Rufus and don't intend to do so.
I like to boot my PC from a WinPE USB device, mount ISO and run “/sources/setup.exe” .

Just to reiterate. My method from my post 27 works. just stop shooting the S.H.I.T and just do it! Stop analyzing. do the install and see for yourself.

Why I'm I posting from An unsupported system if that's not true??

Try changing Storage Option control from legacy to UEFI (if that is an option). If not, report back what the options are there.

When it was finished, it popped up a note that said...

Turn off Secure Boot, before you try to install Windows" or something like that.
The "turn off Secure Boot" was unmistakable.

How/if that applies to a WinPE USB stick... I have no idea.

It should be UEFI only or UEFI and Legacy

If the computer has an optical drive... then you'll need to choose: UEFI and Legacy
...or you won't see the optical drive as a boot option.

I am unable to enable Secure Boot. See my post #31 and the screenshot attached.

I am thinking about the following method, which requires no MCT or Rufus:
Extract everything except "install.wim" from W10 ISO downloaded from TechBench by WZT (v4.1.1)
Copy "install.wim" from W11 ISO into the W10 "sources" folder.
Boot my PC from a WinPE USB stick and run the W10 version of “/sources/setup.exe” among the extracted files.

Is the install requiring Secure Boot?
It's my understanding that this method you're using removes the need for TPM 2.0 or Secure Boot.



Also, I don't know anything really about WinPE.

What we've seen work is making the USB stick with RUFUS, it's automatic.

1. Get your Win 10 ISO from TechBench by WZT (v4.1.1) or use MCT to build a bootable Win 10 USB stick
2. If you got the ISO from TechBench... use RUFUS to make a bootable Win 10 USB stick
3. Go to the sources folder on the Win 10 USB stick and delete either install.esd or install.wim (only one should be present)
4. Mount the Win 11 ISO, and go to the Sources folder and copy the install.wim
5. Go back to the Win 10 USB stick, and paste the install.wim in the Sources folder.
6. Then boot from the USB stick to install Win 11.


These steps were what was on the video, here...

NOTE: If you're using a Win 10 ISO image created with the MS Media Creation Tool, then use the following Step 3.

3. Go to the sources folder on the USB stick and delete install.esd

Another option would be... an In-Place Upgrade to Win 11 ... Upgrade to Windows 11
I would try the ISO method.


Shawn isn't calling it that... but that's pretty much what it is.
Supposedly (rumor), an upgrade like this, doesn't care about TPM 2.0 or Secure Boot, either.

In case you are interested to know, after booting into WinPE, double-clicking on “/sources/setup.exe” will start clean installation. See the following screenshots taken on WinPE when Windows Setup started:

WinPE obviates the need for both MCT and Rufus. WinPE can also be used to surf the net and download files, including ISO.
