How to switch off AI face recognition?

Windows 11 version 24H2
New laptop - I do not have a password and am not signed in to Face Recognition and do not want to use Face Recognition. However, if I look at the camera through by smartphone camera I can see the IR Laser pulsating out, trying to connect. (even though it cannot be seen with the naked eye).

How do I switch this off. I am concerned about lasers in my eyes constantly.

Thanks, but it is already set at disabled and yet the laser can still be seen. The slider cover the web cam camera, but not the AI IR laser :/

The "laser" is harmless to your eyes as it is not in the visible spectrum and is very low power. It's basically a motion sensor. What you are seeing is an infra-red scanning signal to see if you are in front of the laptop. It's no more hazardous to the eye than the motion detectors on your porch light or security system.

No manufacturer is going to put out a computer with a laser in it that will damage your eyes.

Wish I could believe that. Apparently studies are few. Said to cause retina damage. I don't wanna risk it.

I could stand in front of a security camera and stare at the little red night vision light for 12 months straight and walk away with no more than spots in front of my eyes for a couple of minutes. Maybe the ability to turn invisible, but that's about all.

It isn't a laser. It's a small infra-red emitting diode that is very low power. You are exposed to this all the time when you go into the shops and they have security systems or cameras. There isn't a way for these things to hurt your eyes or they wouldn't be used in public places, much less put into PCs.

Can you imagine the legal problems a company would have if they used something that damaged your eyes? They would be out of business from the class action lawsuits.

The infrared light may be defined as a laser but not the type you are concerned about, in my opinion. It isn’t something they could perform laser eye surgery with, not even remotely close.

The webcam is 'beside' the IR laser, so it does not slide that far.

Fair enough. Electrical tape. You wouldn’t be the first to use it in this forum. It’s been mentioned here on occasion. I use it on my iPad camera. Wont damage the laptop surface.

this sounds more like a trolling post.. but if you really want to disable it, go into Device Manager and disable your camera and find and disable whichever sensor it is.
