HP Inkjet Printer. Help uninstalling old one and re installing a new one

Will this affect me then?
I don't believe it will but it doesn't hurt to be aware of any quirks with HP's smart app.

Wynona is right that my last post dealt with windows 10 but do a search for hp smart app not working with windows 11 and you'll see problems.
I'm trying hard to not put a negative tone on your install but other users are having problems and it doesn't hurt to be prepared.

Take your time and do the install in steps and stick with SlicenDice, if anything doesn't look right ask before you proceed.

My computer has WiFi and Bluetooth. When the printer comes can I put it in the cupboard and set it it up from there or do I have to plug it into the pc with USB to first set it up?
Most HP printers need you to initially setup with a usb cable (Usb A to B).

Some will let you use the wds button on routers but I have found it is oftewn flakey.

The usb cable method always works. I always leave the cable attached at printer end, so I do not have to find it if I ever need to reconfigure it.

Hoping I won't have to do that. Going to try with HP Smart first as the Printer will be across the room from the PC.
But not figured out how to download the software yet.
Or how to add the printer to the HP Support App.

Ok but it is the most reliable method based on my experience.

Regardless of whether you use wifi setup methods, make sure you have a usb A-B cable anyway. You never know when you might get an issue and need to print directly rather than via wifi.

polli, the two links I supply have lots of good info, I encourage you to check them out if you haven't already like, installation, reference and users guides.

Yeah printers usually ship with one

I wouldn't be sure of that, in product specifications in this link: HP DeskJet 2820e All-in-One Printer:
Cable included
AP EM only: Yes 1.0m (USB) cable; AMS, EMEA: No, please purchase (USB) cable separately

In this one: Printer setup guide for: HP DeskJet 2820e All-in-One Printer in the reference guide it states:
Do not use USB for setup. This printer has a label covering the USB port to encourage network connection.
To use all the available features of this printer, complete setup using HP software and an Internet connection. After setup, you can print using a USB cable if needed.

And watching the video all you see at 0.30seconds into the video is the power cord and setup ink cartridges unpacked:

I get the impression that HP is encouraging wi-fi over USB it also saves them the cost of shipping a USB cable with each unit.

polli, consider getting regular ink cartridges as those setup cartridges won't last long.

Once you've connected the printer via your phone (Easier on this model as its control panel is limited) you can find the printer's IP address.
Tap on the printer's icon then make a note of it.

2023_12_17_1442_%pn.png 2023_12_17_1450_%pn.png

On the PC open the HP smart app select Add a new printer and wait to load. I'm assuming your old printer is still there so you can now input the IP address for the new printer for it to continue if it doesn't show up. Follow the instructions. Check Windows Update.
See if everything is working as should.

Edit, in Bluetooth & devices -Printers & scanners make the new printer the default and turn off 'Allow Windows to manage my default printer'.

Once you've connected the printer via your phone (Easier on this model as its control panel is limited) you can find the printer's IP address.
Tap on the printer's icon then make a note of it.

That is so handy as never known how to find IP Addresses before👍
But are you saying do it in that order ..... phone first?
Am getting so confused lol
