HP Laptop / Canon Printer Lost ?? Windows 11

How I don't know but my HP Laptop cannot find My MX 452 Canon Printer.. I had this happen before quit sometime ago .. If I remember correctly I had to somehow go into my Canon Printer to make some changes (???) Help & Ideas Appreciated, Cheers Thanks

If you had to fix it at the Cannon printer last time, then you probably had to set up the Wi-Fi connection again. My guess would be it's lost its Wi-Fi connection.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro.

    My SYSTEM FOUR is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e 20DA, Celeron N2930, 8GB RAM, 256GB ssd. Unsupported device: currently running Win10 Pro, plus Win11 Pro RTM and Insider Dev, Beta, and RP 24H2 as native boot vhdx.

Guessing your trying to connect the printer by wifi? My old Cannon MG 5220 is a bear to get connected by wifi now. I generally have to go into the printer settings and reconnect it manually by typing in the IP address for the printer otherwise Windows 11 will not find it. Course I can always plug in the printer cable to the PC which works fine also.

This is assuming you already set the wifi name and password on the printer itself.

Also don't forget you can't connect printers (older ones anyhow) at 5G, you have to use 2.4G.

If you can no longer connect, you may need to uninstall the canon drivers and reinstall.

Many Canon wifi printers require you to setup initially using a usb printer cable (mine does).

I've always had some kind of issues at some point with Canon and HP WiFi printers, bought me a Brother last year, not one issue, yet.

Back when Win 10 was new, it would go stupid with my HP Officejet. Solved the problem by turning off “Let Windows manage my printer” and using the HP software. With my new HP laptop I removed the OEM bloatware including the smart print app and just installed the software specific to my printer. That seems to work well

Unfortunately I suffer from the Fat Finger Syndrome so I'm always Leary about Downloading or Installing Attachments.. The Laptop is Sporadic in Finding the Printer .. It's acting like it picks and chooses what it will Print.. ie: I made an Online Purchase from Home Depot and it Printed off a copy of the Purchase & Shipping.. Made an Online Purchase from Marks Work Warehouse , after clicking on Print Pop up disappeared and Nothing was Printed... (???) Beauty

My Brother Laser printer is the easiest printer I ever owned to install and connect to. I want to upgrade to a Brother All-n-One Laser printer but the one I have keeps on working as good as it did from day one. My Hp and Epson printers are good for color printing and copying but they can be a pain when I have to reconnect to them.

The first thing I do with a printer with a WiFi connection is connect it to the router. I use WPS with the printer and router to connect automatically. When that is done the printer setup program on the computer should be able to find it. If there is a problem with the printer setup program I go to the printer manufacturer support site and check to see if there is an update of the printer setup program.

I have used HP printers with a WiFi connection for over ten years. The only time I have ever had a problem is when a Windows update caused a problem with the HP printer software. The solution was to download a printer setup software update and set up the printer again.

With my old laptop with Windows 10 I had to reboot the laptop if I turned on the printer after the laptop. That is because the laptop couldn't see the printer until I did. With my new laptop with Window 11 I could always see my printer no matter when I turned the printer on.

I use the HP Smart app on an HP computer, which finds and connects with the printer quite easily. Although maybe that only works with HP printers.

I apoligize for being off topic but I want to comment on your post...
I never use the HP Smart app. I find it confusing and annoying since it tries hard to sell ink subscriptions. For my HP OfficeJet Pro 6975 printer I downloaded and installed "HP OfficeJet Pro 6970 All-in-One series Basic Driver - IT Professional Use only". I find it a joke that they said it was for Professional Use only. I think that means for people smart enough not to install the HP Smart app.

I thought HP had switched to the smart app instead of the download now. I found it works fine.

HP tries hard to convince people they need HP Smart. Instead I download the basic driver only. Besides the driver it installs the HP Printer Assistant. It does everything I need to do. At the end of installing the basic driver it still insists you install HP Smart. I have to abort the installation at that point. Note, I have actually installed HP Smart in the past but ended up uninstalling it.
