Solved HP Support Assistant - HP Performance & Tune-Up - HP Performance Tune-Up Check: Error Codes

This has been the third week of the month which consists of my third week of the month computer cleanups for my three home computers.

But I have been having this recurring issue with the HP Performance Tune-Up Check from HP Support Assistant for quite some time now. The check fails to empty the recycle bin as well as the clearing of the web browsers. The end results are the following error codes: 1. [D0] - Operation could not be completed. & 2. [EA0] - Unspecified Error.

I have researched these errors, and I am unable to find what these errors mean and how to resolve them from happening, and for HP Support Assistant to properly empty the recycle bin and to clear the web browser.

I hope someone can help and be of assistance.

This is my HP All-in-One 24 PC that is in reference.

Jesse, I honestly give no weight to these proprietary tune-up apps that come with laptops. I do however find them OK for being notified of driver and firmware updates.

Regularly running Windows Disk Clean up and DISM/SFC checks in my opinion is pretty adequate.

Have you run any?

You can run the SFC & DISM commands from any console, including the command prompt, PowerShell, or Windows Terminal. Open one of these as Admin, the simplest is probably a command prompt, type command prompt or CMD into the taskbar search (or Windows logo key + s) and right click on it to run as admin

Run the following commands one at a time:

scannow & restorehealth

scannow​

• Open search on your PC and type CMD (Command Prompt), right click on CMD (or Command Prompt) and “Open as admin”
• Click on the following command to copy to the clipboard, paste it into CMD. Press enter:

SFC /scannow

• Reboot your PC when finished if you like.

After reboot:

restorehealth​

• Right click on CMD and “Open as admin”
• Click on the following command so it copies to your clipboard and paste it into the CMD window. Press enter:

DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

• Press enter and be patient.

There are also other processes:

“CheckHealth" "ScanHealth"

Patience is needed.

checkhealth​

• Open the Command Prompt (CMD) as administrator.
• Type the following command (or click on to copy to clipboard) to perform a quick check and press Enter:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

• Press enter and be patient.

scanhealth​

• Open the Command Prompt (CMD) as administrator.
• Type the following command (or click on to copy to clipboard) to perform an advanced DISM scan and press Enter:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

• Press enter and be patient.

Ultimately, you could just run the batch file by @johnlgalt at the bottom of the “First Post” in this thread.

I don't have any idea of why it doesn't clean recycle bin, but I may have an idea why it doesn't clear the browsers. It's because Edge leaves processes running (18 of them) even after the browser is closed and as long as those proceesses run, the tool can't clear its cache.

I noticed this same exact thing happening using CCleaner. Edge temporary files were always skipped even though I had Edge closed. When I kill those Edge processes in task manager before running the tool, CCleaner will remove those files. (I did not have this issue in earlier versions of Ccleaner or before the last Edge update though) It will clean Firefox,

Check settings in Edge under System and Performance and turn off Start-up boost.
I also turn off 'Continue running background extensions and apps when Microsoft Edge is closed'.

That second setting is immensely helpful in making sure that Edge doesn't run in the background.

Additionally, I've moved away from my batch files as there is a neat small utility that handles all of those commands, and many more, all grouped into a single app. See post 47 in that thread for more info:
