I recently did BIOS update and my PC is stuck at MSI start up logo

I did a BIOS update from stock version which is 7E06vA0 to version 7E06vAC.

I updated the BIOS successfully and it started up. But I changed booted into BIOS settings and changed some settings back to the settings it were in previous BIOS settings and now the PC loads with MSI logo but doesn't get past the logo and it just stays frozwn. How do I fix this?

But first try resetting to BIOS defaults. (If the update doesn’t do this already)

Is the time/date correct in the BIOS?

If the time/date in the BIOS is incorrect, it can cause a whole pile of problems.

You may also just want to verify settings, especially as relates to the config of the boot drives. On my ASUS MB, when I update the BIOS I have to go back through the BIOS settings and set things back to how they should be set.

I was able to boot into BIOS and reset all BIOS settings to default, and I could boot normally. Tomorrow, I'll test and see what BIOS setting was causing this issue. Kind of weird because the same settings worked with no issue before BIOS update.

Generally after a BIOS update, it has always helped me in similar circumstances to reset to defaults. Then on next boot, re-enter the BIOS and change things back to how I had them.
I don’t know why this is, but this has been my experience.

Maybe I'm just a bit over the top with organization, but any time I get a PC, I document the daylights out of it. Just one of the many things that I do is that I make note of every single setting in the BIOS that I alter from the default settings. This is not as crazy as it sounds because many desktop motherboards make this super easy. Start with all defaults, make any changes, and then when saving the changes, the BIOS displays a list of all the changes you made. I simply take a snapshot of that and save it.

If this issue continues I would check the CMOS battery voltage since I've had BIOS problems when the voltage drops below 3V. You could also try reflashing the BIOS with the same or previous BIOS version.

I think it says in the MSI Centre or somewhere on MSI "If the computer computes with out issues forget updating bios". I tried finding that statement on MSI driver support page but, couldn't find it. Unless you is a real teckky type don't update it.

That isn't really true in my opinion.
It all depends on the BIOS update. There are various reasons manufacturers release a new BIOS, there is nothing wrong with updating a BIOS.

For instance, between 2023 and the current update, updates for the OP's Motherboard have been various and none have really been just for the sake of being able to do so. Included has been:

• Update Code Base.- Improve system stability when switching to CSM mode.
• CPU uCode version 0x123 was updated for CPU performance optimization by disabling the CEP function for the 14th Gen CPU (stepping B0).

If you aren't "tekky" you wouldn't even know an update was available unless your bloatware told you so (Laptops for instance)
And if you had problems, taking it in for a repair would result in the same outcome, an updated BIOS.

Well, It looks like when I update CPU voltage or use enable XMP the computer stays in boot at MSI logo. Also, disabled XMP and left CPU voltage at 1.10 and still stuck at MSI boot logo. I restored everything to default and boots normally... IDK why it's stuck at boot MSI logo when I mess with some BIOS settings.

Interesting. You could try reflashing it, possible the latest update version has a bug with xmp

It happens with messing with CPU voltage too.

Or 7E06vAC 2024-04-24

The Beta includes CPU uCode changes. Perhaps an issue.

I flashed to version 7E06vAC 2024-04-24, I don't flash to beta versions.

A botched BIOS update can brick your PC.

I always install the latest one even if the PC I'm on is old.

And I'll say this:

AVOID MSI CENTER LIKE THE PLAGUE.

The only reason I installed Center any tie recently was because there was a pending firmware update for the lighting on my motherboard, and there was not any other way to get it installed - so I did, and then I uninstalled it immediately again.

I have used both Center and it's predecessor, Dragon something, IIRC, and let me tell you - they are massively over-bloated junk. Nothing in Center cannot be donw outside of Center (other than that one lighting firmware update) by either native software or 3rd party software, and in every single instance, the task performed from outside of Center is better than what Center gives you.

MSI offers at least one way from directly in the UEFI firmware settings to update the firmware, as well as a way to do so more manually, and some boards (like mine) even have a dedicated USB port on the back made for direct firmware upgrades, which don't even need a working graphics, just power to the motherboard.

But as all the fine folks above have said - always manually reset the settings after applying an update, because sometimes it simply will not work. Another caveat, that is much more specific to my board (and thus may extend to other MSI boards) is that, after a UEFI firmware update, the settings for Secure Boot always go screwy - so, after resetting the settings to default, find the Secure Boot section, and change it from default / onboard / however it is listed, to custom, and then save changes, which prompts a reboot. After reboot, go into UEFI settings again, and change it back to whatever you normally use (and you'll notice that the information for the SecureBoot chipset should now be populated rather than unknown, which is what shows after a UEFI firmware update), and it should also auto-magically recognize the existing EFI partitions for the boot drive(s) in your system, and thus be able to boot fine.

If you perform another UEFI firmware for your board in the near future, check this part yourself - if SecureBoot 'info' shows unknown, it will try to fail every time - that above is the fastest fix I've found, so it is what I do immediately after an update, to get back up and running ASAP.
