I Still Prefer Windows 10

I've always been an early adopter of new Windows operating systems and very adaptive to change, but Windows 11 offers me nothing.
Windows 11 is the first Microsoft operating system that takes more than it gives.

That's why all my computers except one are staying with Windows 10 for now.

What do you think?


Stay calm, guys. I know most of you love Windows 11. I don't agree, but it's just a healthy debate.

I don't really care about the version or 'features' as long as the apps I want to use run properly and the system is as secure as possible then I am content.
I know MS has removed a lot of options for the methods to do/ access certain things in Win11 compared to Win10 and I get the frustration, but for me personally none of it matters as I never really use any of those options.
This sounds like I am apathetic about the changes, I'm not, they just don't affect me in the way I use my PC.

If you like W10, stay there. I don't see a problem. I have one W10 system. I wish it was W11, but it's too old and won't update without extra measures. Eventually, I will just replace it with something newer. My daily driver (HP Laptop) has been running W11 for over 1-1/2 years. I liked W10 when it was first offered, years ago, but W10 had a lot of warts too. I find that I can run all the same programs on W10 and W11. So for me, except for cosmetics, they are mostly the same.

I have been working with computers since the late 60's (DEC). That was back when a patch was a patch. I segued into Unix in the early 80s. Were I worked, all systems, PCs and Unix, were required to be within 30 days of the latest update. That's not a big deal, if you only have a few systems, but we had over 600 to manage. I guess, over the years, I got use to change. As long as everything still works, I don't find it a big deal. I have a W11 update right now just waiting for me to reboot.

I still have a old laptop that runs Windows 3.1 with a full MS Office suite and a C compiler (Turbo C). It still works, but I will probably not be updating it any time soon.

I happen to prefer 11, but I didn't spend much time using 10.

I agree with @DigitalGoat entirely. I am running W11 on my two machines and hope to stay on that. W11 has proved stable for the things I use them for. I upgraded from W10 to W11 in Feb 2022 and, 16 months later, I think W10 is not quite as stable as W11 has proved to be (in my case). Do I wish I had stayed on W10? No, but I can understand those that do.

I think W11 and onwards will be introducing more Microsoft advertising so, in this respect W10 is better. I don't think MS will include advertising in an OS that is due to be retired in 2025. Or am I wrong?

+ W11 outperforms W10.
- W11 missing familiar features and offers nothing useful in return.

Skeptical of the direction Windows is taking, as well as compatibility issues.

I don't spend my day in Windows, but in applications [OK some may be called Apps but this is not a phone so I use applications ]. with the software I use there is not any real difference to my workflow so the OS is basically an irrelevance to me, most of my applications are designed to run Full screen on One or more screens so as long as the OS allows this without

I have always tended to run the latest OS during my time in Pro IT Support, [Sometimes just getting ready for the next update to client systems requires this], so it is normal for me to use one application at a time

After using Win 11 for awhile I really like it much better than 10. My 5-year old laptop with 10 is much slower and goes off wandering too much. It is not hardware, it is Windows.

It's still Windows Vista, 7, 8 and 10 underneath (almost 2 years since release and the devs still didn't even manage to rename all the Windows 10 titles). The main visual difference/change - is the slightly changed GUI added on top which personally, like the taskbar - i find it to be an improvement. While switching to Windows 11 - I finally started to enjoy using the native star-menu - instead of feeling compelled to replace it with apps like Classic Shell (since the native start-menu from Windows 10 was sluggish and unresponsive at times - quite far from Classic Shell which would open instantly - same as the star-menu from Windows 11). Other than this slight changes to the GUI - can't say that it feels any different.

A lot of complaints about Windows 11 are purely placebo effect (a stubborn and biased opinion about Windows 10 being superior - which is closer to a religious belief - where they'd reject or ignore any proof - which contests their belief). Seriously, I've met people - whom had issues with their systems (recent builds with high components from last generations) on Windows 10 - yet was working smooth as bother under Windows 11, tho... still bent on using Windows 10 - while complaining about the issues in question and desperately looking for a solution. To each their own - but if you make your life more complicated "intentionally" - then stop complaining and support the consequences.

Anyway, until Microsoft will release a reworked OS from the ground up (cause Windows 11 is more like a major feature pack - than "a new Operating System") - the transactions are quite easy for me (do love their licensing policy - where your license is still valid while upgrading to latest Windows build - instead of requiring a new license). Unless they pull another Windows 8 card - where they changed the Start Menu in a big way compared to Windows 7 (from a clean, responsive and mininimalist Start Menu - to a heavy, unresponsive, heavily filled with blotware type of experience). Noticeable performance impact too.

I just recently updated all my Windows 10 to 11 before "I miss the bus".
At this point, since Windows 8 release, we should expect that every new Windows OS release will be different from what we've been used to. I got tired of complaining. Haha.

Change the scroll bar size, and Win 11 will make you happier... it did for me.

Haha... I am actually upgrading one more right now. But this one is running on unsupprted 4790k PC. This installation is my daughter's old OS from her old PC. I just want to keep the license and all in case I need to build a new rig.

I just rebuilt my Ryzen 7 box and have Windows 10 on it. I'm trying to decide if I want to go to Windows 11. Decisions, decisions...

We have 4 Windows desktops in my house. (me, wife, son, daughter). All of them still on Windows 10 for the time being. 3 of the 4 meet the hardware requirements. The only one that doesn't is my daughters, who has a Core i5-6500.

I have Windows 11 on my Beelink mini-pc, and my work laptop was recently upgraded to 11. I have no real qualms with 11, although I do kinda wish my work laptop could have been a format and reinstall...it's got a few oddities that I think came from the upgrade...but I didn't get a say in this matter).

If I were to format and reinstall any of my home desktops, I would move them to 11. I just don't see a real need to currently change something that isn't broken and is supported. And I should mention, I am a systems engineer for a living, and have been for 25 years now.....so I don't tinker nearly as much with computers at home as I used to. That's probably 90% of the reason I bought the little beelink mini-pc, it's a dedicated tinker box with decent performance. since there is nothing on it that I care about, so if I break it, there is 0 urgency to get it fixed.

I do have my own Windows 10 box, also booting from a VHDX file running Windows 11 just to test out of my hardware, drivers and software that i depend on, and it's been fine.

There have been some handy changes in W11 - better navigation of settings, file explorer tabs, notpad tabs, clock seconds, ability to open other compressed formats etc. Any one on its own is not really enough to move perhaps from W10, but when you add them all up, it is clear that W11 is slicker. It is a bit like a Mark II version of a car versus a Mark I version. The car is basically the same, but you get a load of nice new refinements.

In the end, you can be boring and stagnate, or you can embrace change.

@cereberus : yeah I do appreciate those notepad tabs.

I still don't love the copy, paste, delete entries changing to icons at the top of the window rarher than the words in the standard right click dropdown. Wish that was a toggleable feature.
