A dual boot activating from the one digital licence is two instances installed one device, while restoring a backup image means only one instance is installed at any one time. One breaks the terms of the EULA, the other complies.
But with today's back up software, I must say there isn't much of a difference between dual booting and backup restore. Oh, yes there is, according to MS.
