I am confused. I bought a Macrium reflect license in 2017. I just got a popup saying I can get a discount for the Macrium Reflect v X for a discount. The only thing I do is perform full images about 3x's a week. All works well.
The names are confusing me. What do I have as opposed to vX?
It's worth getting if there is a major reason but I don't know the difference.

You have v7.xxxx or version 8.xxxx. Launch Macrium Reflect and look at the top line. You can stay on v7 or v8 and they will probably work for years to come. X is known to be a lot quicker at backing up.

I have machines with Reflect v8 (4 licences, the rest Reflect Free), a couple with Reflect Free v7, and one that I have just upgraded to Reflect X (aka v10).

They all do exactly the same job, work the same way, and still work in the latest Win11 24H2. The only significant advantage of Reflect X is that it's faster at making images. The other major change is that Reflect X is only available as a subscription licence, if you upgraded you'd have to have to renew the subscription to continue using it.

I bought a Macrium reflect license in 2017.
That would have been a perpetual licence for Reflect Home v7, first released in February 2017. You may (or may not) have upgraded to v8 on release in 2021. Either way, you have a perpetual licence to keep using your v7/v8 for as long as you want (or until MS make changes to Windows that stop it working).

If it continues to meet your needs then I'd say stick with what you have got, only upgrading in the unlikely event that changes in Windows ever stop it working. So far Reflect v7/v8 still work in the latest Insider builds, so that should be years off, if ever.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

I have a lifetime license of Terabyte Image for Windows also , I just upgraded my 3.xx lifetime license to 4.02 which was recently released for a fraction of what Macrium wanted from me, all while keeping my lifetime license ..... no subscriptions.

One can purchase a lifetime license of Terabyte Image For Windows v4.02 , the entire suite for a fraction of what Macrium is charging for it's three year subscription license, you can purchase a lifetime Terabyte License for around what Macrium is charging for a 1 year subscription. Lifetime license includes all updates to the next major version. They offer 50% discounts on major version upgrades , just got mine for around $25 that will be good for the next five years or so (that's how long ago I purchased V3). For those looking to dump the Macrium upgrade subscription debacle and do not want to go the free route, Terabyte is every bit as good and reliable as Macrium.

Suck that Macrium

Without Rapid Delta Restore, Terabyte is vastly inferior to Macrium Reflect or Hasleo backup (free).

Terabyte includes a metafile difference restore feature... essentially the same as Macrium REFLECT's RDR. I tested it when it was released in v3 and it works just fine, with all the appropriate speed advantages.

The main problem with Terabyte is it can be very cryptic within its UI, especially when using advanced features.

Terabyte used to be my secondary imaging system (primary before intro of v6 of REFLECT) prior to the intro of Hasleo Backup Suite. HBS has now assumed the primary role with REFLECT being secondary (eventually that'll most likely be Terabyte once again).

In the end, the OP's question is too open ended.

Some existing users will upgrade given the upgrade terms for existing users are not as draconian as they could have been.

Some people will continue to use V8.1 (like those still using V8.0).

Some people will go to a variety of other 3rd party tools (free or paid).

Some will use Windows own backup and restore tools despite it being a predicated feature.

Some people will only back up data and just clean install.

There is no right or wrong answer.

This thread is now becoming pointless with endless debate about this tool or that tool blah blah blah which has been discussed endlessly on lots of similar threads.

What is really needed is a sort of mini guide to various tools outlining key capabilities, cost, pluses and minuses, but that would take a lot of effort to develop.

Of course, it is unrealistic to expect @Brink et al. to create this.

In the end, it would have to be member driven.

I envisage an Excel spreadsheet template and I would be prepared to put one in a onedrive account which others could access and update with their favourite tools.

Once populated, we would ask the moderators if we could have a sticky thread so people could review the table.

To do this task needs committment of some time from members. Anybody willing to help, let me know by replying here or private message (if you prefer).

Hasleo Backup Suite

I liked this software except I could not find a way to give the backup image the name I wanted before backing up.
Hasleo just gives choice of task and description.
I like to name my backups with the name of the motherboard I am backing up.
B450, B550, X670, etc.
Only way I could find to do this with Hasleo was to rename the file after I created the image.

I'll stick with Reflect 8.1 as long as possible.
If one day, it still can't "do the job", I'll switch to Hasleo.

The only time folks should consider a subscription model, is when it "saves" you money, like for $900 programs or something.

Terabyte Image for Windows
After trying out R-Drive Image I have now changed to this.
I have tried many ways to trash windows and make it blue screen then see if system could be restored with IFW and it never failed.
I also like all the compression options and found the enhanced speed options to be about as fast as Macrium X while also creating smaller images.

The FileName created includes the TaskName, DateCreated, ImageType & version/sequence number. Use the name/model of your mainboard and the FileName will use that in its creation.

Only thing I want in the file name is the board name nothing else.

Without the additional information, Hasleo cannot determine sequence or image type without additional work on the internals of each file.

Ya I do not see why as both R-Drive Image and Image for Windows let you name the file whatever you want to.
Macrium does as well but adds 00-00 after the file name you input.
In Macrium I was always disabling ImageID Prefix so that was not added to the file name.
I did like Hasleo but the file name stuff was a showstopper for me.

It already is faster...

It used to load slowly, like the free version of Paragon. I tried it recently and I don't know if it does well in terms of backup speed.

Veeam (free) is my choice, followed by Hasleo (free) if you are ok with companies located in China.

Hasleo seems faster than Veeam, though backup speed does not really matter if you schedule your backups at 2am.
