Solved Install Dell Firmware 0.1.16.0?

Dell recommends always using "Dell Support Assist" or "Dell Command | Update" to do all driver and BIOS updates.

I've continuously owned many Dell computers over the years and I've always trusted the Dell engineers to get it right with their own support apps rather than trust myself to go out and pick and choose what to do.

I've never had a single problem using "Dell Support Assist" and "Dell Command | Update".

I remember something else too with Dell BIOS, the one shown in Windows Update is not the actual BIOS but just updates the System Firmware version shown in Device Manager which I no longer see currently in Windows 11 Device Manager as my actual BIOS is a newer version than what was shown there which is discussed here for example: Different BIOS in UEFI with Device Manager

Dell Support Assist and Dell Update apps do not always show all drivers, similar to using Dell.com Drivers using the System Tag, the only way to get all the drivers is to manually enter the model number on Dell.com and show all drivers without using the System Tag as I never use the video, chipset or sound drivers provided by Dell since they are obsolete as who wants to use a WDDM v2.7 driver when Windows 11 requires v3.0 and v3.1 drivers just like the audio drivers provided by Dell are HDA and not UAD as Windows 11 requires.

The only thing that Dell Support Assist and Dell Update do well that Dell.com does not show using any method (system tag or by manually using the model number) is the Dell Support OS Recovery Tool which can only be found by searching on Dell.com or Google which will end up at How to Download and Use the Dell Operating System Recovery Image | Dell US as there are times when Dell Support Assist and the Dell Update app does not successfully install it. I have friends who work for Dell in engineering in Austin, Texas who have also said Dell Update and Support Assist does have it's share of problems as it will even try to reinstall things that are already update on the system.

@Almighty1, Interesting. I've never had "Dell Support Assist" or "Dell Command | Update" not display the correct BIOS.

The sound quality on both my Dell XPS 9510 and my son's Dell XPS 9520 is superb.

My experience is that "Dell Support Assist" and "Dell Command | Update" work reliably. I run "Dell Command | Update" every day and, if I ever have a problem, I'll be sure to post it in a new thread.

Dell Support Assist and Dell Command | Update which is not the same as Dell Update, all three display the correct BIOS but the problem is sometimes they keep trying to update the same thing over and over even after you updated it and it does not always show everything that needs to be updated. A good example is Power Management as some people use Dell Power Management which is a standalone Power Management app but that will not install if you have My Dell installed so the only way around it is to uninstall My Dell first before installing Dell Power Manager and then after Dell Power Manager is installed, to install My Dell from Microsoft Store. Dell had been trying to push My Dell instead of what the system came with. What I was referring to is in Windows Device Manager, there is a section called Firmware and under that is System Firmware which will show the version number, that only gets updated if Windows Update decides to push a update to it. If it doesn't, it will show a older firmware number, this has to do with the UEFI bioses. I have taken apart all my Dell laptops notebooks including swapping out all parts including the motherboard. The Dell Inspiron 8200/Latititude C840 and the Precision Mobile Workstation all share the same motherboard, only the BIOS is different so they all have the same support for memory and the nVidia Quadro grahics card. The newer Dell's such as the XPS 15 9570 are not modular as the GPU is just the chip soldered on the motherboard next to the CPU and share the same heatsink and pipe. The XPS 15 9570 is a bad design because if you looked at the bottom, air enters only on the left and right sides of the bottom as the CPU/GPU and heatsink and fans are actually facing down on the bottom side of the motherboard.

This is what the XPS 15 9570 looks like on the outside for the bottom:

and this is what it looks like on the inside, notice the middle does not have vents compared to the outside:

I was not referring to the sound quality but Dell atleast on the XPS 15 9570 only provides HDA drivers and not UAD which is a requirement for Windows 11 as UAD are DCH drivers and Dell does not make UAD drivers for the 9570, only HDA which is several years old. This explains the UAD vs HDA drivers as it is not about sound quality but the way it works on the OS:

If you want to talk about sound quality, @Cliff S is the one who can tell you what version(s) of Realtek drivers sound good and not sound good. The sound quality on the Dell has way lower output compared to the ASUS G74SX-3DE for example because of the design as it also has lower power output.

No one said it was not reliable but unless you compared what things it detects as new compared to the website using both manual input of the model number and system tag, you will find it does not show everything that has been updated. There is also no need to run it daily as Dell only updates things once or twice a month so even weekly would already be too much as seen below and actually adds to the wear and tear of an SSD which does have limited cycles unlike a physical hard disk.

@Almighty1, I'm a classical pianist (my major in college) and have a 7' 5" concert grand piano in my music room. I've been heavily in to high end audio equipment for many years. I think I have an idea what good sound is. :-) My Dell sounds good for a laptop. Of course it isn't high end audio. I don't think I need @Cliff S to tell me what sounds good.

You apparently know what you're talking about and have your preferred methods of taking care of updates for your Dell. Myself, I've always used the Dell Support apps that come with my Dell computers, and I never have problems. It sounds like we both have Dell XPS laptops that work just fine!

@TraderGary - Not a pianist but I am an audiophile since the early 1990s. Without the ASUS, the XPS 15 9570 sounds fine but playing youtube videos for example, the XPS 15 9570 just sounds tiny not because of the sound quality but rather the dB in output. I have also run he Advanced Gravis Ultrasound Mailing list since the early 1990s so the GUS is known as the first affordable wavetable synthesis soundcard which means real sounding instruments without spending a fortune on the Roland MT-32. The Adlib and SoundBlaster are all FM synthesis so it's not even real sounding instruments. When I mentioned @Cliff S, he is the one who seems to be able to tell what each driver version sounds like acoustic wise to be able to tell the difference. I don't even use the speakers on the notebook most of the time as I have wired Etymotic Research ER4P reference quality earphones. I think the only more high end sound are those like the ones like MSI which has Dynaudio speakers or the other brands with Bang-Olufsen tuned audio.

As long as what works for you is what matters, even though we are both trying to help the OP but we still don't know what specific model he has. There appears to be 2 versions of the XPS 15 9570 mainboard as one has a 4 screw heatsink while another has one with 5 screws as even though all the 9570s might have the same CPUs, some actually can run on lower voltage and cooler at -125mV while mines only ops -100mV. But regardless, still nice to hear from other people who have a XPS 15 9570 and also a newer model so atleast I know if things are better or not. I actually like Dell's XPS 15 series for being compact but I wished the larger 17" model actually had a numeric keypad, got spoiled with it from the ASUS, just like I hate trackpads and prefer the trackpoint eraserhead mouse as used by Toshiba and IBM ThinkPad's.
