OS
windows 11
At boot get this

Then Pin screen
1745019061042.webp

I enter Proper PIN, and I get this weird message I have never seen on any of my PC
The install took me hours.
The install worked and it is registered to my windows account
OS is on a SATA drive

I installed diskgenius
Set a clone for a hot migration to an NVME drive
Disk Genius said was doing a system snapshot
After 10 minutes the screen when black, no signal
Laptop was off, it is plugged in to wall

I rebooted and now I get this weird message

Do I have to start over, nuke the whole stupid SATA drive?
The SATA drive is abysmally slow.

I started the OS install this AM, it takes hours and has to do the install, look for updates, download the OS again. I used this USB Media creator from MS on a another PC and it worked fine, and I made it 2 days ago, so you would think the OS is current.

So far today nothing but a pain with this laptop.

I thought maybe the OS shut off the display as I am using the laptop on an external HDMI port, it has no built-in display anymore.

I am very mad at this laptop right now.
If no one has any ideas, I am going to unplug the SATA and try to boot usb setup and do an install onto the NVME
Since getting late, will do that tomorrow.

We were using this laptop with win 11 running the NVME but a year ago, there was a major slowdown. And today I thought why not a reinstall onto the original SATA drive still in the laptop. So I removed it loaded windows and told it to boot the USB, then installed win 11 fresh, wiping the SATA drive.

I have no idea how to enter the bios from boot, seems impossible.

And nobody will be able to advise you further as you've kept your system details a secret.

Power off, hold F2 button, power on boots to bios.
Use mouse to change boot order4 by dragging USB drive to top
Save and exit, it boots windows setup.

I told it to install to the NVME Disk1
Wipe the disk
So it is installing

I have no idea what leaving the SATA Disk0 will do to the install, as I suppose there is a clapped out broke fresh win11 install on it.

The NVME DG did wipe as it had no partitions left on it.

Leaving a bootable SATA in the system creates a boot menu entry
Which I don't want, if I get the NVME to Boot properly, I plane to use disk management and wipe it, I suppose should have done that in the installer
It did copy setup files to NVME very fast

Back to this slow download
It feels like it is back to it's original NVME speed before the collapse months ago
I have to babysit the boot as it has a dual boot menu list now, which I do not like or want.

Why does it have to get new files for something I downloaded just 2 days ago? And it seems like a big download as it takes some time to do.

Also love how Microsoft restores my backup from years far into the future, note date is 2042
Like how would they know what my PC is like in 2042?

Quite an experience of powerful backup as they describe below.

They don't even give an option for not doing this.

I should have wiped the crappy sata drive. Disk management cannot delete the partitions, and neither can diskpart even using the override option.

If I can't figure it out, I will pull the drive out. I hope windows will not show it as dual boot anymore.
The laptop is running fast again. The sata drive is no good for anything anyway.

If you get into Windows, I would view the SATA drive and see if there are any files on it you want to keep and save it to your new install.
Then press the Windows key +X and choose Disk Management.
You can also use a 3rd party app. like Minitool Partition Master
In the old SATA drive If you don't need anything off of it, I would Delete All; partitions until the drive is Unallocated Space. Then Right click that and choose to make a new Simple Volume, for data storage.

If all fails, remove the SATA drive from the computer

yeah, thought I could but windows will not allow it.

Right now I accidently put the HDTV on TV mode and cannot get it back to HDMI input, so time for bed.

If anyone knows how to delete windows OS partitions let me know.

If all fails, remove the SATA drive from the computer. It sounds like this drive may have problems and that is why it is causing slowness.
If you want to try and use it again, attach it to a computer with a USB to SATA adapter. You can Wipe it and run Diagnostics on the drive. If it won't let you, the drive is failing.

FWIW I've never had an issue using Diskpart to clear out everything on a drive.

I used Disk Genius to delete the partitions, did it no problems.
I viewed smart data, it said Good.

I then used windows Disk management to create a simple volume, formatted it no issues.

The laptop is working fast on the NVME. It was unusably slow on the SATA drive.
The windows boot menu is gone.

It may still have an issue with turning off the screen, as in when it goes off, it wont come on. This am, screen would not come back on, I had to reboot.

Basically this Asus laptop, screen got broke years ago, so I removed it and the hinges.
The battery is also kaput.
It has an HDMI out, which I hook to an HDTV and the kids play games with it.

I can also take it to the boat and in the cabin use it for a navigation program, I have a TV in the boat.

I found I have to tell windows to never turn off the screen or sleep as if it does turn it off, the keyboard wont bring it back up.
Power button wont bring it back up, and I have to reboot the laptop

Does windows look at the HDMI out as an external monitor?
Is there a way to let it sleep or hibernate and turn on the screen?
