From everything I've read about it, I wouldn't have an optane drive in my system.

I read where Intel has abandoned Optane and is taking a multi-million dollar loss.

When I ran the pseudo-installed app from the shortcut in my All apps list, one of the windows showed a notice that Optane was not available on that computer. That did it for me. I uninstalled it a moment later. The uninstall took way less than a second. Understandable, since it was only 76kb.

I have restarted a number of times (I was re-ordering some entries in that PC's Win+X menu so that both my W11 PCs would have the same items in the same order) and I have run a number of my programs since that uninstall, and everything seems to be fine.

If MS puts it back with a future update, I'll just remove it again. But as TraderGary suggests, the issue may be moot. My look at the traffic on the topic from the Net suggests that it was never very popular, anyway.

It will only be moot for computers built from now own. There are many thousands out there that actually came with optane installed. It's those owners I worry about. When it first came out, folks wanted the latest and greatest without a understanding of what it was and it's pitfalls. The concept of it is fantastic and it works great...until one unsuspectingly does something to areas of their system that affect it.
