Intel Optane Revisited

The way Dell explained it to me (though some of their words weren't small enough for me to understand) is that I can add an optane module and then, through the Optane management app, pair that module with a HDD thereby boosting the HDD performance to SSD like speeds. It steps in to allow users to run large capacity HDDs at this ssd speed (which are cheaper than large capacity m.2 drives)

It worked for me first time, I hope some of this is helpful, If you reinstall from iso have the 2 folders mentioned ready on a flash drive

You can change to Safe boot through Run-> msconfig, reboot and enter BIOS, switch to AHCI, reboot and switch to normal boot, we need to go through this route in some laptops because system won't boot if we change it under normal boot.

One doesn't. Safe boot is a windows boot. Entering Bios is totally outside of a windows safe boot, before the computer gets to the step of entering Windows, safe or not. Sure, you can change msconfig and set it to safe boot, but once you enter bios before windows boots in safe mode, it's the exact same bios you get without going through this unnecessary step to get there.

I really wasn't expecting an answer. I know the BIOS is accessed before the OS loads.

You have an SSD, Let the Optane memory be a forgotten memory. No pun intended. :)

The access to the BIOS is before Windows loads. There is no way one needs to be in Safe Mode.

Yes, that's what I thought but when I tried to switch to AHCI mode from Intel RST with Optane, my laptop went to "Trying to repair PC" loop

Just my half cents. I found Optane did boost my HP laptop (at the time) performance. However, that laptop caused me a lot of problems even when using a third party drive image software like Acronis. I returned it back and bought a Lenovo instead without Optane.

I'm not sure if you need to do just a boot repair or if a clean install is needed.

In my case there was no option to change to AHCI - I replaced the optane SSD with an NVME and did a clean install.

That "trying to repair" loop was what I had trying to reinstall a system image, made on the optane ssd, onto a non optane drive. It's basically the computer can't boot and is searching for something.

The method of switching to Safe boot I have followed to avoid clean install and keep my OS and data intact.

If you have a Macrium Reflect image, and Hyper-V, try booting it in Viboot. If that works, it should be possible to inject correct drivers from the clean install into the Reflect image.
