Before i bite the bullet and buy one, has anyone had any success using a Xeon E5-2699 V3 with Windows 24H2

That's a pretty old CPU (2014 release). I haven't done it.

However, it supports SSE 4.2, so it's probable to permit an unsupported install of 24H2 on it.

Presumably, as it uses the same LGA2011-v3 socket, a replacement for your i7-5820K?

You do know that it's not a supported Intel processor for Windows 11, don't you? You'll still need workarounds to install or upgrade W11 on it.

It's benchmark is more than double that of your i7-5820K...

...and it has the SSE4.2 instruction set required for 24H2 (as does the i7-5820K). I can see no reason why it shouldn't run 24H2 well.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro (and all my Hyper-V VMs).

Yes it was the Benchmark that made me sit up and take notice. It's only £35 so worth a gamble. I will just drop it into my functional X99 that's already fully updated to 24H2. It's compatible with my Motherboard.

This is one of my setups I am running 11 Pro MBR on. Asus P6T Deluxe V2 with a Xeon 5690 with 32 gigs of ram. It is OC to 4.4 GHz never had any issues yet.

I have TeamGroup DDR4 1333 "TEAMGROUP-UD4-3600"

Can you supply a part number?

I'm having a random thought that you're checking it with something like CPU-Z, which reports the actual clock frequency rather than the DDR transfer rate.

If so, you have what would typically be advertised as DDR4 2666.

I have 8 Xeon's running Windows 11 Pro 23H2 perfectly (one is dual Xeon). All are quick and responsive with zero blue screens, zero problems.
All drivers are updated as is available. All are running ECC memory and rock solid stable.
NVMe, SSDs, and Seagate Barracudas.

I'd do it.

I already have a working Windows 11 machine i'm just going to drop the new processor in as an exchange and let it grab drivers. I have 48G of memory (6 of 8GB) TEAMGROUP T-Force DARK PRO DDR4 - 3600, CL16

If so, you have what would typically be advertised as DDR4 2666.

I just pulled that info from the suppliers webbie, thanks for you input.

Thanks to your's and @PCUser input i've hit the buy button on ebay. I chose a local supplier rather than pay an extra £20 for one from china which would probably turn out to be a re-lidded Pentium!
