Intel Xeon E5-2699 V3 vs Windows 11


I was given a Dell Precision T1650 for parts [as part of my bill setting up her new one]. It has a 3.10 GHz Intel Xeon E3-1220 V2 CPU and 16GB RAM but I fixed it, runs Win10 just fine but no way for properly running Win11 so it will remain as-is for a reference machine when working with my clients, just like the Win7 I've saved.

Most of my machines aren't supposed to run win 11 but I decided they have to.

Funny, I've got a couple T1700 SFF running Windows 11 Pro perfectly. They're great.

I think Windows 11 runs better than Windows 10. Windows 10 seemed laggy on some PCs so I was never a fan of it.

Well that was pretty painless, XEON installed, remnants of i7 removed from device manager. System is way more responsive, prime number calculation is way faster. SO i ended up with a £4000 device for £35, i call that a bargain.

I believe that "Rollback_Jockey's" X99 board cannot use ECC. Even if it did, I imagine that changing to it would add quite a bit over £35.

Wait until you get a MB that supports ECC? The X99 apparently does not.

For sure, it's do-able and fully supported with Win11 updates. I have the E5-2696v3 (turbo unlocked using MiyConst's Mi899 software) on a HuananZhi X99TF (ver.01) MB, with boot from the NVME m.2 where my single-use Win11 Pro is installed. The install was necessary from .iso image file. See various Youtube tutorials for this easy install.
