Internet Radio Receiver - Can I play a Playlist from my PC?

I'm not sure what you mean.
The file in question is a .pls playlist file, and it references the actual .mp3 music files found on the PC - in another folder on another drive.
Having played with playlist file before, I know that you can't move the .pls file to another location without breaking all the links to the .mp3 files. You have to create a new playlist file in the new location. Not hard to do.

In the current state of affairs here, I can access Windows Shares from the Sheild, but the Sheild does not show on the Windows PC. That would be another chore.
The music resides on the PC. It can be played using Kodi on the Sheild from the Share on the PC.

For now I want to focus on getting the Networked Receiver to find and play the Playlist File stored in a folder on the PC just like it does when it finds and plays a Playlist file stored in a folder on a Server out on the internet.

I'm willing to try alternate methods, just not right now.

My newest idea is to Map a Network Drive using the Folder as the drive to map.
This should "remotely access Folders on a PC using it's drive letter rather than it's UNC Path" according to Wikipedia.

I'm not that good at networking stuff. What do people who are think of that idea?

Does your receiver has a bluetooth? Because that is the easiest way to listen through it.

I don't think it is possible at all. Otherwise you got your answers already. Internet radio is like a streaming service (like free Spotify). Your PC is just a repository of your music files and nothing is playing and streaming it to the internet. What you need is a network music player with SMB or DLNA feature so you can scan your network for music source.

If you look at some of the streams that I have already, they are simply playing a .pls or .m3u playlist file.
They have a bunch of music files, they create a playlist from them, you access and play the playlist, and that's internet radio.
The others are doing actual live streams.

So I am stubbornly fixated on the idea that I can do the same thing locally.

I have music players that can scan my network for music sources and play them. I'm good there. I'm listening to one of them now.

Yeah, but when you say "internet" you need to have a domain to play it through. You have a playlist but you don't have a way to play it online.
But then there is a question of copyright issue if you stream them on the internet so you can play it on your radio. Probably the reason why they don't make it so easy.

You may be right.
However, I would not be playing it "online". The wider internet has nothing to do with it.
I'd be playing it on a piece of equipment connected to the local network. Each piece of equipment has a unique (fixed) address on the router. The url is just a local address to access the file. (I would think)

If it's local, you don't need the internet radio. It has a different protocol. All you need is a network player.

You're going to have a very long wait then. I have no clue on if it's possible or not . I just know what they want to do and it doesn't include uploaded their content to a Internet Radio Station.

Yes, they are. I posted that so you could see how the addresses and files names work for 'stations' that you connect to over the actual internet.
An IP address, then a server/folder/file syntax.

Right, but are you doing that locally or over the internet. I can do locally or online. Simply log into my online Plex account.

Honestly for what you want to do, you're going to have to deal with networking. Nothing extensive, but still.

Which probably means that the Pioneer does not have SMB or DLNA capability to play his music direct from his shared music folder on his PC unlike the HEOS that the Marantz has.

The simple solution I see does not involve scratching his head for the software or URL.
A chromecast audio connected to the receiver can link his PC/phone/tablet/laptop to the home theater speakers instantly.
VLC or WinAmp can be used for chromecast streaming. But I am guessing he only wants to use the hardware that he already has and the chromecast device could be out of the equation.

The chromecast type device is not out of the question. In fact, it might be inevitable. As you correctly pointed out, this is an older receiver and does not do DNLA or anything easy like that. I'm attempting to marry new systems to old tech.

I've got a few more ideas to try tomorrow. After that I may have to accept reality.

This is the Google Chromecast Audio that I am talking about. I hardly see them now but I got mine 4 or 5 years ago I think. I have 4 of them. It's the easiest way to setup wireless streaming to any speakers or receivers or setup a multi-room speaker system.

But this technology is getting very common these days and most of the time they are built into the newer systems. But I guess you can give the cheaper versions a try. I am guessing they will work exactly the same. I am just not sure about the audio quality.
