Solved Is there an easy and free way to transfer everything from old PC to new PC?

Short of pulling the laptops apart and cloning the drives (ouch), or following some of the suggestions posted above, I don’t know any software that would do that, unfortunatly. It could save time and be benificial.
There are expensive programs that will transfer file and programs from one OS to another like Easeus PCTrans, Zinstall etc but they can be flakey.

However, these tools usually have a very restrive licences i.e. you can only use it to transfer from say PC A to PC B.

You cannot use it to transfer from PC A to PC C or from PC B to PC C without buying a new licence.

So the licence is effectively one use only. Frankly these tools are just not worth it.

As I said several times now, use image backups and export drivers first of new pc is the easiest option and free.

Of course, the best option is the dism method.

I transferred OS from an AMD pc with Sata SSD to Intel pc with NVME IRST drive, Radeon Graphics to Intel Iris graphics and completely different sound cards, wifi cards etc. using the dism method, and it worked a charm and no 3rd party tools at all.

I have a couple of batch files that do all the hard work.

It was an interesting and fun learning curve (following @Kari's excellent tutorials).

It sounds daunting but is well inside capacity of any guy familar with the command prompt.

Current laptop is a DELL Inspiron but, if I buy a new laptop (of another make) is it possible to simply copy over all apps and files using software without overwriting the new laptop's specific drivers? This link shows what I mean but is there another easy and free way to do this?: -
To transfer everything to a new computer, including migrating installed apps and data to a new laptop, as provided in the tips above, could be various and tricky.
The easiest way is to turn to a third-party tool, as you and other guys mentioned above, like Todo PCtrans, zinstall, etc.

If you prefer a manual but free solution, here's what I'd suggest:
Copy all your data to an external disk and paste them to the new laptop. Don't use nearby sharing or WiFi, as the speed would be limited due to network stability.

As for apps, if both of your old and new laptops are using the same operating systems, you can apply a third-party app migration tool to transfer them to the new computer. (No free tools; all require payment, though.)
But if the old and new computers are using different OS, download them manually on the new laptop to avoid compatibility issue.

If you put good money into a new computer, take the time to clean install all your apps. Copy your files to external media and then copy from external media and paste into your user folders to make sure you won't have any file permission issues in the new machine. This is a good time to cleanup any junk you've accumulated too such as duplicate files, stuff you have no use for any more, and creating a good folder arrangement. . Yes, it's time consuming. I just went through it myself over the weekend. But now I know my files are organized, my file system is clean as are all my apps, and my registry is clean too. Having a brand new machine is not the time to try to shortcut the process

I second cereberus's 2nd method.

It's feasible, given your old PC with Windows 10/11. and I do it often in my PC transfer. my PC run Office, python, Discord, pdf. , ,
after transfer, re-activating the license for those apps, one-by-one.
(since it's NOT clean-install, new PC with those apps may or may NOT perform best. for my case, python run same. Office/excel run slower , , ,)
