Is Windows 11 a glorified Windows 10?

No offense to anyone, mind you. It's just how I read the posts. Those comments are a little off the OPs topic of the games reporting the OS as being Windows 10 and wanting to know if there was a solution. Comments like those aren't solutions or explanations other than overt lambastes of Windows 11.

Never pass up a chance and saying negative things about 11. If the GUI sucks that much.. don't use 11, it's that simple.

If I were the OP I would go back to using 10 if I had an issue like this until 11 is more of a mature OS.

That's just it. I'm not sure if the OP has an issue with Windows 11. I think they're just confused why winver is reporting Windows 11 and AC-V is reporting Windows 10. People just seemed to take the opportunity to chime in about how bad Windows 11 is when it might not even be an issue related to Windows 11.

There clearly is an issue but I don't think it's in anyway related to Win 11. While the key difference is the OS upgrade I don't know how that would effect the running of a game. We've had many reports that games work just fine under 11 and I've not had any issues with games or any other program with 11.

In addition to seeing Win10 mentioned in Win11, even though the file manager has had its name changed to File Explorer there's still places it hasn't been changed from Windows Explorer, even the old File Manager still works.

I responded in post #3 to the OP's report of a confusing occurrence and chucked in a light-hearted comment that picked up on the OP's choice of words.

There has been a string of posts decrying such comments but I was unable to respond sooner because I've been testing Windows 11 offline.
- The test required one of my backup drives to be connected [I never connect to the internet when a backup drive is connected].
- I found the results interesting.
- A backup script that had been written for Windows 10 was failing because, it transpired, permissions on a particular Registry key were different to those of its Windows 10 equivalent. {HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Exclusions\Paths}
- Having identified the problem, I have now also identified a potential solution.
- So, once I have tested the potential solution, I'll be able to amend the script so it runs in both Windows 10 & Windows 11.
- I expect to be running both OSs for a couple of years yet so commonality in scripts is important to me.

I never understood why people remained on Win 7 for so long after Win 10 - and I still don't get the aversion to this new OS (technically it's different to Win 10 albeit with some legacy code)

So, in regards to the last two questions in the OP, @Try3's answer is about 99.9% chance to be correct - there is some registry entry that still has "Windows 10" listed in it. It's that simple.

Regarding FC6 locking up the GPU - that sounds more like a video driver than strictly a Windows 11 issue. Glitches happen.

Driver issues are most likely the cause of this issue. It shouldn't be a shock that a new OS will have issues when it comes to drivers.

Regarding the technical changes .. I reported before that I had to change code in ShowKeyPlus on merely checking if a file exists... in Win 11 the file will exist but if the user does not have read permissions it will not report its existence and give an access denied error.

This is the kind of intrinsic coding changes required in most apps now.

That is - Win 11 checks permissions whereas Win 10 did not.

I think it is more likely that a new driver release will have issues. The latest GeForce Experience was only released 11/11/21. Nvidia updates their drivers just as much as MS updates Windows. (and I know GeForce Experience is more of an overlay than the actual driver itself).

Windows 11 is similar enough to 10 to be easy to get into and that is just how I prefer it. There would be no sense in it being so different that the average user couldn't get it to run, and remember forum members have very little in common with the average user who will not have ever heard of this forum and never will.

That's true, once you get all the hardware features turned on that Windows 11 requires by default....UEFI, GPT partitioning type, TPM, Secure boot, assuming you have a supported CPU. A lot of people are having issues converting their MBR/legacy BIOS Windows 10 to UEFI/GPT in order to upgrade to Windows 11.

Yes 11 is a glorified win-10 with little more than obnoxious security requirements and wrapped in a new desktop theme.

Never saw so many members use so much drama from someone just using "glorified win-10" as a negative to 11 lol
It's true whether it's a negative or not well some just use what they want for fresh meat :lmao:
