Issues with Wireless Display and Mobile Hotspot in Windows 11

Hello everyone,
I'm also using Windows 11 23H2 OS 22631.2715

(I think it's the latest version because when I go to windows update it updates to date. And, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling WD feature in Power Shell with Admin permission. )

. I also looked at the patches in the Beta, Dev, Canary branches... Then I read that there was some change to "Wireless Display Addtional Feature" aka "Connect" in win 10.
About 2 to 3 weeks ago, I was still using "Wireless Display" to project my phone screen onto my computer (including sound) very well.
But currently my "Wireless Display" app doesn't know whether I turn wifi on or off. When I press "share screen" on my phone, the laptop's name (the name of the WD app) appears and disappears intermittently.
I also cannot access Mobile Hospot on laptop.
I tried every solution but it still doesn't work so I thought this is a windows 11 bug, right?
I would really appreciate it if you could give me advice.

Sorry no one has answered your questions. I do not have an answer about wireless display but I will give you my experience with using a hotspot.

I had no experience with hotspotting and tried every way I could find to hotspot my iphone to Windows 11 when a tornado destroyed the wireless tower that serves my internet. Since my ipad connected easily, I thought connecting the PC would be a piece of cake. NOT.

No matter what I did, the iphone never showed up as an available wireless network on the PC. I was about to give up when I stumbled onto not a solution to the way it's supposed to work, but a way that did work....kind of. In my case, I found the hotspot worked when I plugged the phone into one of my usb 3.2 ports. It would not work using USB 2.0.

I couldn't get it to connect until I powered off both PC and phone. Power on phone, wait about 5 min then power on PC. Sometimes I had to do this several times. Then the iphone would finally showup in wireless network list and connect with the iphone key. It worked that way for days as long as I didn't let the computer sleep. When it did, I had to go through the whole ordeal all over again as the connection would drop. Not ideal but OK for emergencies.

PS: I couldn't get it to work in Windows 10 at all. No USB 3.0 on that machine.

So if someone knows a fool-proof way to hotspot an iphone with Windows, I'd like to hear it, too.

Hi, @Elektrify, and welcome to the Windows Eleven Forum (aka 11F).

Mobile HotSpot is where a device typically takes in a cellular data signal, and shares it to other devices via Wi-Fi. So, if you're connected to a Wi-Fi connection, it's gonna kinda get in the way of a HotSpot.

This tutorial will show you how to project the main display to the PC screen only, duplicate, extend, or second screen only for all users in Windows 11. If you have more than one display connected in Windows, you can use choose a display option with Project to change what shows on your...

At the end of the first post, there are also related tutorials, which are all about using Project, including how to clear the display cache, and uninstall (so you can try to reinstall) the Windows Display App, so you can try installing it again.

But, I suspect that it's actually the Wi-Fi - verify if it is set to public or private network:

Settings --> Network & internet --> Properties in the middle - does it say public or private?

Thank you but it seems mine is not. I use the 'wireless display' feature and project my smartphone screen onto my laptop. I understand what you mean by "wireless display adapter". I can't test it now but it's not what I mentioned.
I have also tried things like resetting the network adapter, reinstalling the application, resetting the network settings. And of course I set the wifi to a private network (even turned off the windows firewall). But it still doesn't work.

Thank you but previously the features I mentioned worked very well. I can connect to wifi with my laptop and broadcast a hotspot for other devices to connect to. The same goes for the "wireless display" aka "connect" feature. Works fine until I discover it's broken.

Realize also this could be an issue with the phone, meaning a recent update to he phone is causing it issues, especially as the phone is not reliably seeing the computer.

Thanks for your advice but I don't know how to check it. It is just a system feature and does not appear in the Play Store.

If I had to guess, I would say it's Windows 23H2 since did it ever work under 23H2?

I don't know when but I will definitely return to Windows 10.
