Just another issue with my Dell-It's ram this time.

The Dell users manual states that the board supports 4x 8GB, 4x 16GB and 4x32GB RAM at 2933MHz. Not sure what more proof you need. Only thing that it also states that may be the issue is that all 4 RAM chips MUST be the exact same model or the performance may be degraded but all RAM will still be populated.

A stupid "rule" IMO.

I thought this was the norm!
I have 2 sticks, First in slot 1 and second in slot 3. If i was gonna add more, Id add them into slot 2 and 4, Albeit i'd be the same ram and not different so it wouldn't matter there i guess but especially if they're different.

Yeah, just saying to mix it up regardless of primary or secondary slots because the OP have 2 different sets of RAM but same specs

Then that means the RAM configuration is NOT supported. If it was it would work

Supported to me means my 32gig Corsair kit (4 x 8gig modules) runs @ it's stated 3600MHz... Which it does

At any rate, this isn't about proving anything, I was just addressing the issue the OP had.

And now with this ram issue, their excuse is they are only responsible for the ram that originally came from Dell which does run at expected speed. in the slots Dell put them in. Even if I had been able to find exact matching Micron sticks, the guy told me they would still not be responsible unless I purchased the sticks from Dell. Arguing that Crucial is owned by Micron and uses Micron chips did no good. For every issue I have they have a loophole to not have any responsibility for it.

And one more reason to never buy Dell anything! Grrrrrrrrrrr Thankfully I've never been tempted to buy a Dell.

Seems Dell is similar to HP...very picky with RAM. I will avoid both brands knowing this. Thank goodness I'm a Lenovo/ThinkPad user...anything you plug in will work with best possible configuration.

Pretty much why i dont buy ANY prebuilt anything xD
Although im sure there a lot of good ones out there that don't have issues etc i know.
I like to deal with the manufacturer of my components directly as opposed to going through a third party put it all together company, Dell etc. Again not that they don't make good stuff, Just adds an extra guy in the middle for nothing( Me personally i know there are pro's to prebuilts and majority use them) Just not for me

Yeah for sure, The principle is the main thing other than the fact its cost you you're own money and time to fix they're issue. I've just always been a custom build and avoid the hassle with companies like dell etc but it isn't always the best solution depending on needs etc.

My first PC was an HP, which, unlike Dell, is universally compatible with everything PC. I used that HP to learn to build a PC by disassembling it and putting it back together in a new case with upgraded components.

Laptops from HP definitely does NOT work like that...Dang it is difficult to find proper RAM.

Myself, I like Dell/Alienware and generally buy them made to my specs so I don't have to do any upgrades. we do have my last laptop was an HP and I thought it quite poor in comparison

The old days of buying an OEM with minimums and upgrading are basically over.
I advise clients to buy want they want from the beginning and not worry/rely on upgrading later except for drives.
Even Video card upgrades can be an issue because of non-standard cases and PSU's

Well, glasskuter, you aren't the first Dell owner who scratches their head too often due to mysterious, cryptic, or just ignorant Dell responses to issues. When my sleeping 5510 tried to burn the house down Dell's solution was to simply turn off all Sleep and Hibernate modes.
Look on the bright side, you have 32GB of RAM now!!

I also like to choose my own components. I don't deal directly with manufacturers. I deal with component suppliers.

For people who don't like to assemble their own computers, they can still choose their own parts.
There are plenty of computer part suppliers (especially the bigger ones) that offer to assemble it for you at a small price if you purchase all the parts from them.

Even though I like to assemble them myself, there is a positive side to getting the parts supplier to assemble it for you. If you are unlucky enough to get a faulty part, then the supplier can easily swap the faulty part over, whereas you don't have additional stock on hand and have to deal with the supplier and convince them you have a faulty part. It's happened to me before.

Do this...

Return the Crucial RAM, and ask them for a 32GB set (2x16GB), at w/e speed you want... that's compatible with your computer.

When you get that RAM... just put it in slots 1+2... and ignore slots 3+4. :)

Save the Micron 16GB set for emergencies.
