Highlights

Gradual rollout

These might not be available to all users because they will roll out gradually.
  • [Task Manager] Fixed: It might identify an HDD as an SSD.
  • [Taskbar] New! You can now share files directly from a jump list on the taskbar. Jump lists appear when you right-click an app that has a jump list

  • [Windows Spotlight]
    • New! There’s a quick and easy way to find out more information about a background image. Simply hover over the image or click the “Learn about this picture” icon.
    • New! This update makes Windows Spotlight easier to find. You’ll notice changes to the icon color and background. Also, the icon will show at the lower right area on your desktop.

  • [Lock screen] New! This update makes it easier to learn more about the image on your lock screen when you select the “Like” button.
  • [Narrator] New! There are new functions for Narrator scan mode. Skip past links (n) allows you to go to the text after a link. Use the comma (,) to jump to the start of an item (large table, long list, or another item.) Use the period (.) to jump to the end of an item. This is most helpful when you read long emails, news articles, and wiki pages. Jump to lists (l) allows you to quickly access a list on a web page or in a document. To use these new functions, turn on Narrator first (Windows logo key + Ctrl + Enter). Then turn scan mode on by pressing Caps lock + Spacebar. Note that scan mode is on by default on most web pages (like news articles, wiki page, and so on).

  • [Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers] New! Some of you might see a new referral card for a PC Game Pass subscription on the Settings home page. With it, you can invite friends and family to try a PC Game Pass for free. If you qualify, the card only appears when you sign in to your PC using your Microsoft account.

  • [File Explorer]
    • New! You can now snooze or turn off the “Start backup” reminder in the File Explorer address bar. This only applies if you are not already backing up your files and folder. To view this new option, right-click Start backup.

    • Fixed: Improves performance when it loads folders that have a large number of media files.
    • Fixed: When you enter a URL in the address bar, it might not go to the location.
    • Fixed: The address bar overlaps files when you use the F11 full-screen mode.
    • Fixed: The context menu opens slowly when you right-click cloud files.
    • Thumbnails for cloud files display more consistently in search results.
  • [HTML Help Viewer] New! This update adds text scaling support.
  • [Start menu] Fixed: The colors are wrong when you open the account manager flyout menu. This occurs when you use a mixed dark and light custom mode in Settings > Personalization > Colors.
  • [Scanners] Fixed: Apps might not recognize a scanner is available when it is connected.
  • [Audio]
    • Fixed: The volume might increase to 100% when you wake your PC from sleep.
    • Fixed: You might hear a mute and unmute sound several times.
    • Fixed: A USB audio device might stop working after your PC is idle for a short time.
  • [GDI+] Fixed: After you use GDI+ to shrink an image, the colors of the image might be wrong.
  • [Shared PC] Fixed: Using a Guest account to sign in to a PC that is in Shared PC mode might fail. This occurs if you set up DeviceLock password policies.
  • [Mouse] Fixed: In Settings > Accessibility > Mouse pointer and touch, you can choose a color for the mouse that is not the default. When you chose a color, it reverts to white after the User Account Control (UAC) dialog appears.
  • [Live captions] Fixed: If you disconnect an external monitor, the live captions window might not show.
  • [Drag and Drop] Fixed: The drag and drop functionality wasn't properly moving objects (such as files, emails, or attachments) in certain applications and monitor configurations. This issue occurred on devices using high DPI displays and apps using legacy DPI scaling modes.
  • [Camera]
    • New! Multi-app camera: Allows multiple applications to access the camera stream simultaneously, developed with people with hearing disability to provide video streaming for both a sign language interpreter and the end audience at the same time.

    • New! Basic camera: Enables basic camera functionality for improved debugging, recommended as a last resort when your camera is not functioning correctly.

Windows 11 servicing stack update (KB5052915) - 26100.3312

This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Servicing stack updates (SSU) ensure that you have a robust and reliable servicing stack so that your devices can receive and install Microsoft updates. To learn more about SSUs, see Simplifying on-premises deployment of servicing stack updates.

Known issues in this update

Roblox

Symptom
We’re aware of an issue where players on Arm devices are unable to download and play Roblox from the Microsoft Store on Windows.

Workaround
Players on Arm devices can play Roblox by downloading the title directly from www.Roblox.com.

Citrix

Symptom
Devices that have certain Citrix components installed might be unable to complete installation of the January 2025 Windows security update. This issue was observed on devices with Citrix Session Recording Agent (SRA) version 2411. The 2411 version of this application was released in December 2024.

Affected devices might initially download and apply the January 2025 Windows security update correctly, such as via the Windows Update page in Settings. However, when restarting the device to complete the update installation, an error message with text similar to “Something didn’t go as planned. No need to worry – undoing changes” appears. The device will then revert to the Windows updates previously present on the device.

This issue likely affects a limited number of organizations as version 2411 of the SRA application is a new version. Home users are not expected to be affected by this issue.

Workaround
Citrix has documented this issue, including a workaround, which can be performed prior to installing the January 2025 Windows security update. For details, see Citrix’s documentation.

Microsoft is working with Citrix to address this issue and will update this documentation once a resolution is available.

How to get this update

Before you install this update

Microsoft combines the latest servicing stack update (SSU) for your operating system with the latest cumulative update (LCU). For general information about SSUs, see Servicing stack updates and Servicing Stack Updates (SSU): Frequently Asked Questions.

Install this update

To install this update, use one of the following Windows and Microsoft release channels.

AvailableNext Step
YesGo to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update. In the Optional updates available area, you will find the link to download and install the update.
YesBefore you install this update
To get the standalone package(s) for this update, go to the Microsoft Update Catalog website. This KB contains one or more MSU files that must be installed in order.

Install this update
Method 1: Install all MSU files together

Download all MSU files for KB5052093 from Microsoft Update Catalog and place them in the same folder (for example, C:/Packages). Use Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM.exe) to install the target update. DISM will use the folder specified in PackagePath to discover and install one or more prerequisite MSU files as needed.

Updating Windows PC
To apply this update to a running Windows PC, run the following command from an elevated Command Prompt:
DISM /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:c:\packages\Windows11.0-KB5052093-x64.msu

Or, run the following command from an elevated Windows PowerShell prompt:
Add-WindowsPackage -Online -PackagePath "c:\packages\Windows11.0-KB5052093-x64.msu"

Updating Windows Installation media
To apply this update to Windows Installation media, see Update Windows installation media with Dynamic Update.

To add this update to a mounted image, run the following command from an elevated Command Prompt:
DISM /Image:mountdir /Add-Package /PackagePath:Windows11.0-KB5052093-x64.msu

Or, run the following command from an elevated Windows PowerShell prompt:
Add-WindowsPackage -Path "c:\offline" -PackagePath "Windows11.0-KB5052093-x64.msu" -PreventPending

If you want to remove the LCU

To remove the LCU after installing the combined SSU and LCU package, use the DISM/Remove-Package command line option with the LCU package name as the argument. You can find the package name by using this command: DISM /online /get-packages.

Running Windows Update Standalone Installer (wusa.exe) with the /uninstall switch on the combined package will not work because the combined package contains the SSU. You cannot remove the SSU from the system after installation.

File information

For a list of the files that are provided in this update, download the file information for cumulative update 5052093.

For a list of the files that are provided in the servicing stack update, download the file information for the SSU (KB5052915) - version 26100.3312.

Hoping tomorrow this gets resolved for me, never had a preview update for me take more than 2 days to be given to me.

The repair install thing that a previous person here mentioned to me raises some minor concern as this laptop I am using is brand new as I got it on the 14th and this is still my first time trying windows 11 after ditching a windows 10 laptop that was slowly withering away

The msu file I installed yesterday for KB5052093 (26100.3323) came from the MSU Catalog. No Insider jabberwocky or whatever. Yet as we've all seen, it did indeed cause Bitdefender, both Free and paid, to squawk constantly with both SFC and DISM. Well released, oh MS.

Have backups for the previous installation (KB5051897 26100.3194) of course. Unhappily, my backup routine runs at 2 week intervals for full disk increments, with daily copies of constant change files (emails, spreadsheets, current reports etc). When KB5052093 turned up in the MSU Catalog yesterday, I was two days short of full disk incremental backup, so apart from the daily file changes, I will lose almost 2 weeks of other changes by using the full disk backup. Perfect timing for an MS stuffup. Obviously, this backup routine will be modified to include a full disk incremental before installing an O/S update.

Nonetheless, I will have to revert to the KB5051897 backup as I have no faith that a March O/S update will fix this issue. And do this for both PC's. Yep, trust is harmful it seems, but this forum has been of real help here.

As Ghot says:

I think Microsoft's grand kids wrote KB5052093, mislabeled it, and released it.

Agree. Or some gofer released a mislabeled preview. So typical of large bureaucracies, even those developed as enterprises.

It was meant for insider release channel but someone decided it was ready for general release in some got it. some didn't. I can't complain, all checks out' Judging by contents it looks like it's what 24H2 upgrade should have been, it was underwhelming. Not mislabeled either, all Cumulative updates are labeled Preview.
All this one was is just premature by less than 2 weeks. That's all. No drama.

Found also repairable on SCANHEALTH, had to run RESTOREHEALTH to fix it.
Usual long time at 62.3% while repairing and then finally completed to 100% successfully.
Same problem on 2 different machines. 😝🤷‍♂️

View attachment 126516

Same issue here... dism /scanhealth showed the component store was repairable so I ran dism /restorehealth and, like you, it was stuck on exactly 62.3% for at least 30-40 minutes. I left it and it eventually finished. Very strange.

sfc /scannow reported no issues post-install.

I'm not sure it's related to any particular system, just some usual MS shenanigans. You can always grab this .MSU like some including me did. It installed in few minutes.

I guess it's not clear what the side effects are? Problems with Antivirus? I would like to install this to eliminate some USB audio issue but is afraid of other new issues.
